The Belgian writer Maurice Maeterlinck was born in the city of Ghent in 1862.

He wrote his play L'Oiseau bleu in 1908 and it was first performed on 30th September at Stanislavski's Moscow Art Theatre.

The story is about a girl called Mytyl and her brother Tyltyl seeking happiness, represented by The Blue Bird of Happiness, aided by the good fairy Bérylune.

By both its French title and English title The Blue Bird the play gained considerable success. For its London debut at the Theatre Royal, Haymarket in 1909 the composer Norman O'Neill composed incidental music and later recorded it

It was filmed in 1910 and turned into a novel by its author in 1914 and then an opera by Albert Wolff in 1919.

For the 150th anniversary of Materlinck's birth, the City of Ghent commissioned a lightwork from the French design studio Pitaya. The installation was removed in 2012 but subsequently acquired permanently by the City Council in 2016 and reinstalled at its orginal location by the River Leie at Predikherenlei.

Fireworks are festivals of colors, light and sounds. This shot was taken the 1st of August, Swiss national day, when a fireworks spectacle takes place in the middle of the Leman lake. Colors were beatiful, but I spent the whole show looking at the reflection on the water.
