A fairly large but relatively lightweight bird of prey, the African Harrier-Hawk (Polyboroides typus) has a distinctive small, pointed head, with a patch of naked yellow skin on the face which flushes red when the bird is excited. On the top of the head is a crest of feathers, which may be raised or lowered.
African Harrier-Hawks eat a whole host of animals, from mammals like rodents and bats, to small birds, lizards, amphibians, and insects. They normally hunt by swooping low over vegetation or spying on future meals from a perch, but they have been known to actively scope out snacks.

With the blue waters of the Exe Estuary as a backdrop, a two-car Derby Lightweight DMU formed of cars 52063 & 51939, was departing from Starcross with the 15.45 Exmouth to Paignton service on May 30th 1990. The unit was one of several first generation DMU's cobbled together and sent to Plymouth Laira Depot in 1987/88 following various issues and the eventual migration of the Class 142 'Skippers' to the North.
An attempt at an ultra lightweight, mass production boxcar. I would love opinions.
It is completely hollow - built on a standard train base, the walls attach to each other and the roof holds it all together.

The Ferrari 275 GTB was launched in Paris in 1964. This rare example with its lightweight aluminium body has a Dutch history.
In 1965 it was delivered by the Belgian Garage Francorchamps to the Dutch Ferrari dealer at the time, Molenaar in Amersfoort. Unlike most 275 GTBs, which are in showroom condition, this car is completely original, including the paintwork. It still has its original set of tyres. The Ferrari was acquired by the Louwman Museum from its first owner and has less than 50,000 km on the clock.
The model designation of the early Ferraris is based on the cylinder capacity. Each cylinder of this 3.3-litre, twelve-cylinder Ferrari 275 GTB therefore has a capacity of 275 cm³. The top speed of this car, which is considered one of the most beautiful Ferraris ever built, is 260 km/h.

The 90EX on dtop of the camera optically triggers the 270EXii which is velcro'd to the lens hood. Both flashes are very small and lightweight/take up little luggage space. The 270EXii is easily diffused, here with the Stoffen Omni but additional diffusion materials are easy to add per Orionmystery's blog on flash diffusion.
Fitting inclusion into the Alan Mann Trophy for Ford GT40s was this lovely and special example of the breed...
In 1965 Alan Mann racing ordered the ultimate version of the GT40 Mark I for the upcoming season. Abbey Panels was responsible for the design which included an aluminium panels and roof.
Unfortunately, almost as fast as Alan Mann got his order in, Ford changed gears and used some of the available chassis for their big-block GT40 Mark II. Before this happened however, two cars, chassis GT40PAM1 and GT40PAM2 had already been delivered. These were immediately sold by privateers while Ford delivered 427 cars to the team.
Being 150 lbs lighter than standard the Lightweight were not properly homologated and were slightly converted back into a standard specification with fiberglass bodies a thin sheet-steel roof covering the aluminium structure underneath.
GT40PAM2-AM GT40/2 was purchased in December 1966 by Paul Hawkins Racing and became one of the most prolific GT40s in European racing. Hawkin's modified it back to Group 4 specs using standard bodywork pieces. It debuted in blue with board white stripe down the center and was later repainted Monaco Red with Gold stripes. In this livery it raced at the 1966 Sebring 12-Hour race but failed to finish with Graham Hill and Jackie Stewart at the wheel.
Consistent modifications throughout the season helped the AM2 remain competitive. Later victories included England, France, Austria, West Germany and Holland, making AM2 one of the most successful private GT40s. At some point the engine was replaced with a 351 V8.
In 1982 GT40PAM2 was part of Bob Robert's Midland Motor Museum before being sold to George Stauffer who repainted it Blue. Appeared later at SAAC 11 in 1986, the 25th Anniversary GT40 Reunion at Watkins Glen in 1989 and the 30th Anniversary GT40 Reunion at Road America in 1994.
Offered at Dana Mecum's 2009 Original Spring Classic Auction, AM2 failed to sell with a top bid of $2,300,000 USD. Described as "The most successful and famous privately raced GT40 of all, AM GT40/2 is powered by a 289 fitted with four Weber 2-barrel downdraft carburettors and backed with a ZF 5-speed gearbox. It remains one of the most historically significant GT40 race cars ever to carry the chequered flag."

To say they were designed for heavy block coal trains, to see a 56 on such a light duty would once be unusual. On 23/04/19, Colas 56105 works the 5Z23 Cardiff Canton to Derby RTC stock move, with 37521 tailing the working. The location is just south of Peartree station in Derby.
New Haven Railroad EP-2 class motor # 0320, wearing the pin stripe scheme, is seen with its pantographs down, along with a passenger train consist on a yard storage track, Danbury, Connecticut, 1949. Directly behind the EP-2 motor is another motor that is wearing the short lived pin stripe paint scheme. To me the pin stripe paint scheme makes the motors appear to be longer in length. The first passenger car coupled to the motor is an Osgood-Bradley lightweight coach (aka; American Flyer).

A Chester [CH] Depot based Class 108 Derby Lightweight 2-car DMU with DTCL 54490 leading heads away from Rhyl station while working the 11:50 Llandudno to Crewe.
Taken from Grange Road Bridge, this 1986 view shows the abandoned former carriage shed on the extreme left of the frame and the splendid LMS eight doll signal gantry that controlled the eastern approach to Rhyl. By this time the former Up Relief line had been lifted and a parcel of the land acquired to extend the storage facilities of the local builders' merchant Roger W Jones. On the right of the frame, the former Morley Road Cemetery had by then been converted into an open park area.

Small Starfighter contest entry #1
The Gnat saw most of its service in the Drone Wars and was one of the first fighters to re-introduce an organic pilot. While it's armament of one medium blaster was considered relatively weak, it's powerful engine assembly provided for great agility and a quick escape when things got hot.

Vier waren geplant.

For some 25-30 years, Bedford and Ford slugged it out in the medium-weight bus and coach sector. Both manufacturers offered vehicles of relatively simple technology that appealed to small-scale operators. Compared with the premium chassis offered by Leyland and AEC, Bedford and Ford vehicles were cheap to buy and operate. More straightened times in the 1970s led the state-owned National Bus Company and Scottish Bus Group to place orders for Fords for use on stage carriage services - a role for which they were not ideally suited.
Both types are seen here in service in Bicester, offering contrasting levels of passenger comfort. In the lead is Red Rover/Keith Coaches Bedford YMT 142 (BBW142V). Fitted with Plaxton Elite Express coachwork, it is about to return to its home base of Aylesbury. The vehicle was just five months old at the time of this photograph. It survived to be acquired with the rest of the Red Rover/Keith Coaches business by Luton & District in the late 1980s. The DVLA records that BBW142V was last taxed in 8/94.
Behind is Oxford South Midland 657 (NWL657M), a Ford R1014 with more Spartan Willowbrook 001 bodywork. It was one of a batch of 25 delivered in 11/73. Several were allocated to the small Oxford South Midland depot in Bicester to work local services. They were not intended for a long life, and NWL657M disappeared from the scene around 1981/82.
With bigger corporate fish to be fried, both Ford and Bedford bowed out of the passenger vehicle market between 1984-86.
