One of the “biggest challenges” is photographing light sculptures ...

because most of the time you don't get the original colors because bright light colors become white or the room becomes proportionally too dark ... and the effect achieved by the artists is not revealed ...

I am satisfied with this picture ... I hope you are too ...

Last one in the series, again shot with a modified Helios 44-2 58mm f/2 Lens with M42 to Canon EF adapter + 12 mm Kenko extension tube.

Out of the shots of the forsylia flower I posted previously, this one is my favour. Which one is yours? Here is the little secret behind.

I have this Helios 44-2 vintage lens for over four years now. I bought it for its famous swirly bokeh; but I feel it hard to find the sweet spot. Apparently you need a pretty good distance in the background so the little light spots and details can register into that swirl shape.

Recently I learnt online that the front and the rear elements of Helios 44-2 could be reversed. Unfortunately my version does not have enough threads to reverse the front, so I decided to give it a try to reverse the rear element.

Wow, surprisingly after only a few shots, the crazy bokeh is unmatched and it also has remarkable color retention.

Now I am convinced that the inexpensive Helios vintage lens is a very fun lens to have and you can do many mods with it. From now on I definitely will use mine more often.

Alnwick's Tenantry Column in its Christmas colours.

Built in 1816 by the tenants of the Duke of Northumberland. During the Napoleonic Wars, the Duke’s tenants, who included farmers, mine owners and factory owners, benefited from increased prices for their products due to the demands of the Army. As profits increased, rents too were raised. The peace of 1815, however, saw a fall in demand, with the resultant drop in both prices and profits. The tenants struggled to pay the higher rents, and so the Duke of Northumberland reduced his rents by a quarter. His tenants, thankful for this, jointly subscribed to construct the column.

There's a tale, possibly apocryphal, that when the Duke saw that tenants were able to afford to erect such a monument, he promptly put their rents back up. The truth? Who knows??

As this will be my final upload before Christmas Day, I would like to wish all my friends, followers & visitors a very and happy and blessèd Christmas-time.

Two years ago we went to the Upper Antelope Canyon near Page, Arizona. It's a very unique slot canyon, definitely something I recommend anyone to have on the bucket list. The canyon is in a Navajo Indian reservation - you have to take a guided tour to see it. We took a tour at around noon, at that time you get these nice beams shining straight down the narrow canyon.

I had the camera on automatic when I took three exposures holding the camera against the wall. The ISO was high, so I used the JPG files instead of the RAW ones for HDR processing because Sony has very good in-camera noise reduction. I used 2 of the tree exposures for the balanced HDR processing, then desaturated the image.

ASU News did a nice story about my Christmas light paintings! news.asu.edu/20251211-arts-humanities-and-education-illum...

The story behind this image is that my Ricoh camera, which I love, somehow got packed away with the Christmas decorations last January. When we decorated this month - there it was!

/@Work with cracking great light today, Enjoy! :-)))

A simple shot taken in the Palmerston North Esplanade gardens - the light in the tree and the shadow it cast appealed for the nice scene it presented.

Have you ever seen light so beautiful you just had to shoot it?

Looks best in light box view!

In the impressive laser lighting show...

I actually have three different light sources in this picture, the remaining light of the sunset, the stars and the moonlight. It makes for a pleasant light where you can see details like the bottom of the lake even though it is late at night.

Light painting experiment using LED wand

Light is a funny thing and the more you watch you it the more you begin to realize it has its own purpose, its own way of doing things and all you can do is respond to it in a fleeting moment. In this scene it was like the Sun flicked a switch to light up the valley below. Once again the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee deliver with a Sunrise and Cloud Inversion.

Here you can see some simple mountains near the Aiguilles d'Arves, Savoie (France).

I always love to seek out the harmonious perfection of geological peculiarities, forms, light, shadows and colors that the landscape, here on Earth, has to offer.

Most of the time it's not even necessary to look up to the universe to begin being surprised.

I walked into our tearoom at work just in time to catch the light streaming in through the venetians and casting these cool patterns across the table and chairs.
