Yesterday I went on a bike trip from the best city in the world, Amsterdam, to a lovely little village/island called Marken.

I went with a group of fun, bicycle-loving people, we biked 50 kilometers and had so much sunshine, wind, good vibes and delicious fishy food snacks that I can safely say, it was a perfect Summer day in the best country in the world :)

This is the entrance to Neverland Marken, a little traditional Dutch Fisherman Village, that has kept much of its old charm and thanks to the inhabitants wearing their grand-grandparents clothes, makes you feel like you've gone through a time-tunnel, hehe :)

Here's what 'the Man' has to say about Marken:

"Marken is an island in the IJsselmeer Lake. A storm surge in the 13th century separated the village from the mainland. The local people are a close-knit community. The main reason for this was their centuries-long isolation. The typically Marken houses and the traditional costume are reminiscent of the past. The dike which was constructed in 1957 once more links the island to the mainland.

Source of income

Before the former Zuyder Zee was closed off and became the IJsselmeer Lake, the local people made their money with fishing. Now many people work outside Marken. These days tourism is a major source of income.

Marken houses

The village consists of two districts, the Harbor district and the Church district, and eight surrounding mounds. In the old days the island was flooded quite regularly. For this reason, houses were built on stilts and on mounds. Most of the houses are painted dark green and most side-walls project.

Traditional costume of Marken

In summer the women wear a striped underskirt during the week. They don a full, black skirt and a black apron over this. Over the jacket with striped sleeves, they wear an embroidered bodice and a kind of bolero. A floral wrap is pinned to the front of the bolero. These days, the women usually only wear a small bonnet made of lace, cambric and chintz. The men of the island wear a smock and knickerbockers. The youngest children of the island hardly ever wear traditional costume. Boys and girls do sometimes wear skirts and bonnets, in a wide range of patterns and colors."

Haha I have no idea, how I came up with this. Nor do I have any idea why I did this...

I suppose sometimes I like to be borderline inappropriate...just to shake up people's perception of me?

I miss the Summer...it's only gone for a little while and soon it'll be back, but for now I miss it. I miss wearing my shorts&shirts, I miss not looking like the Michelin-man in my winter jacket, I miss chilling out in the park with my friends, I miss sitting outside a bar with a cold drink, I miss looking at all the hot Amsterdam girls in their light dresses, I miss riding my bike without having to worry about slipping on some ice layer in the streets, I miss the bees, the flowers, the warm breeze and all that...luckily it's almost Spring now and soon I won't have to miss all these things anymore :)

Have a nice Winter!

No Photoshop or any other software/tricks was used to create this wicked reflection shot :))

Even though I refer to the people in this picture as 'Urban Riff Raff', I don't mean it in a bad way, I just like the sound of the words, I'm sure they're all very nice, talented, loving and caring people, that are on their way home, to tell a significant other how much they cherish and appreciate them being part of their life :))

Have a wonderful, wicked weekend, I'm going on a 50 kilometer bike trip in an hour, with lots of lovely people, it's gonna be so much fun, the sun is shining, my bag is packed and I can't wait to hop on Bikey and kick off :))

...or at least it looks like Iran finally got nuclear weapons and is attacking Amsterdam :)

In reality it's just a friend of Miss E, enjoying the afternoon sun and the delicious coffee&cake...somehow, after fiddling a bit with the colors&contrast, it looked like she's witnessing a nuclear explosion outside the window...Miss E has the freakin' BEST light in her new appartment and I intend to spend many afternoons there with creative outbursts and lots of homemade pie's (eat your heart out Mr.D, haha ;)

The technical quality is not good I know but I just love the atmosphere here.

Yes, really, we do have a shop called 'Blond'! Are you surprised, this is Holland, the home of the 2-meter Blondes?! ;D

In my humble opinion, taking wicked reflection shots on them is the best thing you can do with cars :))

Have a nice long Easter weekend, enjoy the sunshine, take care but take it easy!

Mr.P, looking all stylish :)

I was just snapping away, a bit drunk already (&VERY high on paint+terpentine, hahaha ;) and didn't even notice this pic until much later, when I reviewed my wicked day on my PC's big screen...I guess the pretty people of Amsterd@m always look cool, even if they don't try :)

P.s. Sometimes I wonder where the titles for my pics come from, it seems that the little people from the Photo department of my brain sit around a lot with the little people from the Music department, having beers, trying to find ways to combine their knowledge to supply the little Japanese engineers living inside my mobile phone with complete Flickr-posting-packages...wicked people they are...love you guys ;-)))

Okay, I'm pretty sure I'm having the Best Week Everâ„¢!

First, I won a bike. Sure, it's not the best bike in the world and I prefer the three bikes I already own but still- I won it!

Then, if you're not on flickr all the time, you can find time for Craig's List and you might just score a polaroid camera and 2 packs of film for $20. Suh-weeeet!

And that's just the beginning:

Monday- Dinner out with out of town friend at awesome new Thai restaurant.

Tuesday- 8 hour round trip with a car full of food lovers to a farm in the country where they make wood fired pizzas with wheat they grow and mill themselves. (more on this later...)

Wednesday- Later today I get to be a judge in a local cooking contest, which is like going to the best potluck ever.

Thursday- Who knows what Thursday has in store for me...

Friday- Going to see She & Him with a flickr friend.

Saturday- Finally, finally getting to go to the Great Taste of the Midwest, a fab beer fest that I've never managed to get tickets for.

And to think that this week last year I was laid up on the couch with a sprained ankle...

This city is a dirty old Hoe...but I love her :)

My last weekend was near perfect, it lasted for 4 days, it was perfect weather, and I've spent lots of quality time with awesome people, so imagine my shock when I found out the Monday after, that I'll have to work this Friday, my usual day off! I'm actually trembling and also crying like a baby as I write this, so hurt is my delicate little, fluffy soul by the insult of an idea to make me get up at 6 in the morning, bike 10 kilometers and spend the whole day working? It's inhuman, that's what it is, and nobody should have to suffer like this...oh, wait, I just realized that most of my colleagues do this every week, all year long, all their lives...how the hell do they do it? And why?! Ah well, I'll console myself with the thought that I'll be off next week Thursday and Friday to make up for this horrible thing that has overpowered me, called a full working week, lol ;-D

P.s. If you're thinking now 'Well, I work 5 days a week, every week, and you don't see me rolling around on the floor with a snotty nose, crying like a baby over it!', I can only say, you must be some kind of superhuman, while I, as I have mentioned, am the proud owner of a delicate little, fluffy and easily upset soul, hahaha :D

Thank God it's Friday, I'm so going to try to get reallyreally drunk tonight!

Unedited shot of tourists eating fries in Amsterdam, reflected in a puddle. Taken with my Sony HX1. No editing, no magic tricks, no Photoshop :)

The tourists come to Amsterdam for many reasons (Sex, Drugs and Rock'n Roll), one of them are the delicious fries that you can eat in the best city in the world. If they're unlucky enough, they might show up in one of my puddle pictures while enjoying their greasy, yummie snack. These ladies were clearly not distracted enough by all the fat pumping through their veins after consuming their Patatje and discovered that I was shooting them, even though I was mostly submerged in the puddle...I guess I'll have to try harder the next time, lol ;-D

The lovely Miss C is chilling out on a tree hanging over the water in the Vondelpark, in the best city in the world :))

Today was a perfect Spring day...until about an hour ago, the blue sky got cloudy and it rained hailed a bit but I guess that was only to protect our hearts&minds from exploding from an overdose of all the sheer joy&fun of spending such a lovely day in such a lovely city, lucky us :D

Have a great Good Friday, enjoy yourself before somebody else does it for you, hehe ;-))

couldn't help the vintage process to add to the romance.

A good day to walk the gardens :-)

This place used to be a popular stop for vacationers headed to the Smoky Mountains. They even had their own Teddy Bear Restaurant that you can see in the background. Not sure what happened to it but the Teddy Bear was abandoned when I drove up on it in 2012 and is in really tough shape these days. Whittier,North Carolina. 10.8.2012.

Wow Dude, do you see those colors?! Haha ;-D

Cherry blossoms a'la infrared ;-)

I walked by a shop on the Leidsestraat and thought there was a real lady standing there so I went back and took a shot...I think I need glasses ;-))

We got some great directions from the shop where we rented two Santa Cruz Superlights. Awesome singletrack on the Colorado Trail. This is a 500 mile trail that we had ridden a section of several years ago in Durango. Super fun 20+ mile ride with an awesome descent that ended just north of Breckenridge.
