As part of our campus beautification project we were able to replace our furniture. How nice! The student use this area to relax, study and read the daily newspapers or magazines. This summer we will be doing some painting.
Historic Carnegie Library, built 1913, Hot Springs, South Dakota. The city center contains over 35 sandstone buildings and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
Hot Springs is one of the warmest places in South Dakota with an annual mean temperature of 48.6 °F (9.2 °C). Some of the attractions in the Hot Springs area are the Mammoth Site of Hot Springs and Evans Plunge with its naturally warm 87 °F (31 °C) spring water. The town is a gateway to the attractions of the southern Black Hills, particularly Wind Cave National Park. Hot Springs holds the annual Miss South Dakota pageant. In recognition of its historic value, the National Trust for Historic Preservation listed Hot Springs as one of its 2009 Dozen Distinctive Destinations. (Wikipedia)
A Carnegie library is a library built with money donated by Scottish-American businessman and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie. More than 2,500 Carnegie libraries were built, including some belonging to public and university library systems.
Of the 2,509 such libraries funded between 1883 and 1929, 1,689 were built in the United States, 660 in Britain and Ireland, 125 in Canada, and others in Australia, New Zealand, Serbia, the Caribbean, and Fiji. Very few towns that requested a grant and agreed to his terms were refused. When the last grant was made in 1919, there were 3,500 libraries in the United States, nearly half of them built with construction grants paid by Carnegie. (Wikipedia)

One of the side passageways in the Library of Congress. Love the shiny gold ceiling.
The building was renamed to the "Thomas Jefferson Building" in 1980. It was completed in 1897 and has one of the most elaborate interiors I've ever seen outside a church. I have a lot of pictures of it! :)
Hand-held over my head.
You really should view on black.

nrhp # 85002845- The Rundel Memorial Building is a historic library building located at Rochester in Monroe County, New York. It is the original downtown site of the Rochester Public Library, and along with the Bausch & Lomb Library Building directly across the street, serves as the Central Library of Rochester and Monroe County. It is framed in reinforced concrete and faced in smooth Indiana limestone. It consists of three main floors, a mezzanine, two underground levels, a catwalk level above the river, and a penthouse area for equipment. It was constructed between 1934 and 1936, and represents an integration of Beaux-Arts planning and massing with Art Deco detailing and stylization. The building is sited along the east side of the Genesee River directly above the Johnson and Seymour millrace and Rochester Subway. The building was built in part with monies from the estate of Morton W. Rundel and with a grant from the Public Works Administration.[2]
It is a work of prominent Rochester architectural firm Gordon & Kaelber[2]
It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.

Liverpool Central Library, on a sunny day. Straight from the camera with circular polarizer on lens.
A local library celebrated it's 80th year so my friend and I made a commemorative quilt. The quilt has one best seller for every year the library has been open. We also created sample library card and added quotes about the importance of books. The Library was so plaesed to receive it they had it framed, for protection.
Nos visitaron alumnos del programa English for Journalism. Compartimos libros, ereaders, tablets, revistas, DVDs. Hands on!
I last visited in 2008, before the library was refurbished and extended. It is now bright and airy inside, with a modern entrance in the right hand building.
A built-in created for a friend. Not the type of work which I normally like to do, but it went really well. Everything aligned to make the project work out. They turned out to not just be nice people, but people who were easy to work with. It was a first floor load-in onto a newly installed floor (this meant that it was flat and level). They did not want the project to have any special tricks or adjustable shelves. This was just a book-loving couple looking for a place to display and enjoy something they care about.
