The first movie theatre in Murphysboro. Built in 1913 under the name of Tilford Theatre and renamed in 1918 inspired by the patriotism of World War I. Operated until closing in 1998. Renovated in 2002 and reopened by a not-for-profit group.

Thomas Jefferson helped to create a new nation based on individual freedom and self-government. His words in the Declaration of Independence expressed the aspirations of the new nation. But the Declaration did not extend “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” to African Americans, indentured servants, or women. Thomas Jefferson drafted the Declaration and called slavery an “abominable crime,” yet he was a lifelong slaveholder.
Lovely little town, with a wonderful old hotel that has been restored with marvelous care and consideration. If you ever get over that way, please stay there.

At 8720 FT / 2657 M, Liberty Bell stands guard over Washington Pass, and all climbers driving over Highway 20 stop to drool. First is the East Face, with it's steep big wall climbs. Then comes the South and West faces with modest climbs in the 5.6 to 5.9 range, a peak baggers dream. Finally, is the mercifully short approach, especially for a Cascades climb. It is very popular with climbers during the summer months, and you might get stuck behind another group on the wall. The Liberty Crack is listed in the book "The 50 Classic Climbs of North America", which includes routes such as Denali's West Butress, the North Ridge of Mt. Stuart, and the Nose of El Capitan.

Shot from the Staten Island Ferry on a cold, grey, windy, snowy day in March. 5-photo panorama stitched using Hugin. Big crop because I had a 24mm lens on and the subject was a long way off. Changed to black and white because, other than a very dull green on the Statue of Liberty, everything was truly shades of grey.
