natural light shots of hermits, birds with odd shaped tail which creates a typical hunched posture. Hermits have a long decurved bill with a red or yellow base to the lower mandible, and their two central tail feathers are elongated and tipped with white, buff or ochre. The crown of the head is flat, and two pale facial stripes enclose a dusky mask.
Most hermits are restricted to the edge and undergrowth of forest, woodland and second growth, but some species (e.g. the planalto hermit) also occur in more open habitats.
Many species of hermits form leks and congregate on traditional display grounds, where females visit to choose a mate. Male hermits are generally less aggressive than other male hummingbirds, although both sexes will defend a feeding territory.

The stripe-throated hermit feeds on flower-nectar taken by trap-lining. It has also been observed piercing the base of flowers to get nectar that otherwise would be out of reach; sometimes it take small insects. Typically this species forages fairly low, only occasionally at canopy-level.. This hummingbird is found in a wide range of wooded habitats, e.g. forest, woodland, clearings, thickets and gardens; typically in humid regions, but locally also in drier, deciduous habitats (e.g. in Ecuador). Mainly found in lowlands and foothills, it has exceptionally been recorded up to an altitude of 1,800 m (5,900 ft) ASL.

Yes, I know. I should have taken a look at the Crazy Tuesday discussions a little earlier. Though it is debatable whether this blue is pretty at all. The apartments there are certainly very expensive. Nonetheless, after the recent lost places decay (more will follow), I wanted to show something more glossy for a change ;-) Taken during a boat trip on the River Spree and Landwehr Canal in Berlin in summer 2016. This apartment house called "Living Levels" is a new residential tower located at the riverside of the Spree next to the famous East Side Gallery. The building, actually the entire development of the Spree riverside, is very controversial. Most of the new (residental) buildings are / will be luxury buildings, while affordable living space is a scarce commodity nowadays. The irony: The tenants of the Living Levels tower are now fighting against a new hotel which is supposed to be built next to their building. They claim that the hotel will block out the morning sun.
At this point I still had my manual vintage 50mm Zuiko lens mounted, but the 100 mm (crop factor 2 for MFT) on my OM-D were too much tele. Later on that trip I switched to the m.zuiko digital 17mm f1.8.
Wohnturm "Living Levels" am Spreeufer neben der East Side Gallery. Das Bauprojekt (eigentlich alle Bauprojekte dort) war sehr umstritten, Stichwörter: Verdrängung, Gentrifizierung, Mediaspree... Nun klagen die Bewohner des Luxubaus selbst, denn neben ihrem Haus soll nicht nur ein Hotel errichtet werden (bereits in der ursprünglichen Planung enthalten), es soll auch noch zwei Stockwerke höher werden als geplant. Und das nimmt ihnen die Morgensonne weg.
Aufgenommen während einer Bootsfahrt auf Spree und Landwehrkanal im Sommer 2016. Zu diesem Zeitpunkt hatte ich noch mein manuelles 50-mm-Zuiko drauf, aber die 100 mm, die daraus an meiner OM-D werden, waren doch zu viel Tele. Später habe ich dann das m.zuiko digital 17mm f1.8 angeschraubt.

After being looped at Barlby for 30 mins 20132 leads the 3S14 Grimsby to Bridlington rail head treatment train over Barlby level crossing just outside of Selby.

UP YPR60B makes a setout at the lower level of Blommer while overhead, North Line #330 arrives Ogilvie with a repainted F40PH-3. Blommer's lower level receives cocoa butter in tanks cars while the upper level takes sugar in covered hoppers.

This four level interchange, to the North of Downtown Los Angeles, was the first of its kind in the US. It was built in 1953 and connects the 110 Freeway to the 101. In order to get the landing skids out of this shot, taken from directly above, it required the door to be removed (before flight) and the helicopter to be rolled slightly. This means I was facing the ground with nothing but a regular seatbelt holding me in. That was pretty cool and one of the more memorable things I've gotten to do while photographing. Can't wait to take another ride.
