My Dad was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia this year. Although he's in total remission, he'll always Leukemia. We need a cure for not only Leukemia, but all cancers as well.
My teenage Son is driving me Mad, but I love him to bits
I have already torn the hair out of My head in frustration over him.
Now I think I might just eat him and spit out the bones :)

Secret # 3: I was born with Leukemia but it healed miraculously. The doctors told my parents that I would need a blood transfusion. At the time my dad was a missioner at a prison in California. So he asked all the people there to pray for me, all the churches he knew and he'd get up every day at 4 am in the morning to pray for me. When the time came for the blood transfusion the doctors couldn't explain why but I was healed. So I believe in the power of love to transform things and in the power of prayer to make miracles happen.
This is a Bible one of my favorite pastors gave to me and it has helped me through some of the toughest and loneliest times of my life. :)

Last November, I was diagnosed with Leukemia . Six weeks later after my second round of blood work when my doctor was going to lay out my options and treatment plan, I was told I was miraculously leukemia free. I don't know if it was a miracle (like my mother claims) or it was a misdiagnosis (I had 2 doctors diagnose me). Whatever it was, for six weeks I went through much of what the people I portray during the month of October do. My creativity soared. The sweet faces of my children and my family members became precious gold to me. Each day was the most magnificent day of my life. I appreciated every second of every day! Looking down the face of death does that to you ~ and so much more! I posted a picture the day after I found out that I was leukemia free.....it was Christmas Day last year. What a Christmas present! Here it is and I meant every word I said to all of you: me, less than a year ago
Does it matter what doctor you get treatment from and where you receive your treatment when you are diagnosed with cancer? You bet it does! Please read this article published by Newsweek Magazine : can a top cancer center save your life
With that said I want to say "thank you" for listening, watching and caring about all the people and things I brought you this very important month of October. I have acquired a url and called it "ratemycancerdoc.com". My vision is to have a universal site where anyone around the world can access this site and get a rating - good or bad - on the cancer doctors near them and thereby get the best treatment possible!
I don't know how long it will take me to develop this site, but I welcome any or all help from any web developers out there. And as soon as it is up I will advise all my sweet flickr friends.....I love you all so very much!
This year, I leave you with one important quote ~ "Worse than having no sight is having no vision" ~ Helen Keller
I love you all so very much praise you in the storm

Ingrid's leukemia diagnosis came days after her mom and I started corresponding- about sourdough bread of all things- on Facebook. We have a mutual friend, and she connected us because we live only about a mile apart. We've emailed on and off the past four months as Ingrid has been in and out of the hospital and bravely faced chemo and side effects and many, many challenges.
We've planned to do photos since the beginning but literally every time we've scheduled them Ingrid has ended up in the hospital. Today the stars finally aligned, and I had the privilege of documenting this stunning family. Ingrid was excited to be outside. Brother Klaus was excited to share his love of music with me, and I got to meet a family of superheroes in the midst of a tough journey, living every day with courage. If you're the praying type, say one for sweet Ingrid tonight.
Shot taken during Leukemia Cup Regatta race at Lake Lewisville this morning. Beautiful, but HOT day in DFW. Textures by Kerstin Frank and one of my own. Thanks.
Two years ago my niece married a man from Costa Rica. On his wedding night, leukemia reoccurred. He had high doses of chemo, radiation, a stem cell transplant along with other drugs and treatments. As you will see, he is now cancer free and healthier than ever. This video was taken at our house last Thanksgiving. Harold and his 12 year old son Sammy had fun dancing to our jukebox.

The sparking clean hallway outside my unit. Good news. Everything is going even better than expected and I should be released tomorrow for a few weeks of recovery before the second phase of treatment.
This photo was taken in June 2011 at Joe's Pub in New York City. A year before we moved to Maine. The banjo player on the far left is Warren Hellman, who was a very wealthy investment banker in San Francisco and created this band and had an abiding interest in bluegrass music. A few years earlier he created and endowed the annual free to the public Hardly, Strictly Bluegrass Festival in San Francisco. He died in December 2011 from complications of treatment for leukemia. Jimmy Dale Gilmore is the musician with the long blond hair and is highly accomplished and I assume was hired to provide leadership to the band. They released a CD in 2011 and I think this show was to promote the CD. Hellman's wife is one the members of the band. The show was very good and the quality of the musicians was good.
On reading his obit I discovered a connection, his mother was a Koshland in in the same family as my post-doc advisor, DE Koshland, Jr.
Sofi, an adorable 1-1/2 year old Pumi, lost her battle with leukemia in June of 2011. She left behind a pair of broken hearts... Terry (musgrove and yogi) and his wife, but also many memories of laughter and love to cherish forever. You are dearly missed, sweet girl.

Last night was 'light the night' fundraiser held at Elder Park, along the River Torrens...the turnout was fantastic...it was free to get in but these lanterns you see here, cost $20AU!
Leo Sayer (who has chosen to live in beautiful AU) put on a great show and got the crowd involved...the weather was perfect...and at the end of the night the crowd went on a procession along the river, over the bridge and then along the other side...with our lanterns on...
The white lanterns represented, having lost someone in the family...the yellow ones represented, having survived the disease and the blue ones, represented hope and support...I'm happy and thankful to say, I needed to buy the blue one...
Blessings everyone!
With love
Nat :)
PS I will catch you all in a little while! :)

Sarah, diagnosed in her second trimester of pregnancy with leukemia, poses with her husband and daughter two days before her scheduled delivery. She is truly one of the most amazing people I have ever met.
