Sofia was struggling with an AP Computer Science concept and got exasperated with it, of course no one in this household could swoop in and help her with this! It was so interesting to see how she handled it--she made up her own Montessori lesson "to teach it to myself"--just goes to show, you can take the girl out of Montessori, but not the Montessori out of the girl.
It's been 4 years since Sofia was in Montessori school (she's a Sophomore, Montesorri education "stopped" at 6th Grade).

As a culminating activity for the lesson, his students went to the #NativeNationsRise march on March 10, 2017 to learn, to make history, and to act in solidarity. The lesson he used is by Rethinking Schools teacher/writers Ursula Wolfe-Rocca, Bill Bigelow, and Andrew Duden: zinnedproject.org/materials/standing-with-standing-rock-n... For example, in Darija, there are two ways to say to think: dun and fkkr. Dun more accurately means to hypothesize, but no one actually says things, “Well, I hypothesize that if you go out with your hair wet, you’ll catch your death of cold, and your uterus will fall out and you won’t be able to have babies.” Fatima gave us a bunch of examples of the different uses of dun and fkkr, and then had us write sentences for both. We also draw pictures of the verbs as a memorization tool.
