Last week, I was a volunteer, this week, a paid professional!
I got hired as a photo instructor for a local after school program after just one week as a volunteer. Truly divine intervention the way it all happened.
After today, I'll have the same students week after week. But today, I had to come up with something to teach them that wouldn't necessarily need to be built upon. I brought in a bunch of my photos and a bunch of different cameras. I had them pick those they liked and talk about why - then talked about what makes a good photo. Also talked about how one doesn't need a fancy camera to take good photos - hence the samples on the table. Picked out some photos and had them tell me which camera they came from. They were surprised.. that segued nicely into us going out with some disposable cameras and shooting. They were so excited, they were literally running everywhere! It was great!
The end result of a photoshop lesson for a friend (my version). The lesson was on selections, masks and adjustment layers. Combining a shot of a chair, and a shot of a tree to look as though they were in the same frame. Still waiting for their 'homework' ;)

I taught a strobe lesson in Shinjuku, with the help of the talented Youko Sunshine and makeup by Beauty By Alexandre. After we got the makeup on, it went fantastically. Thanks to everyone involved, and especially to David and Tom.
