See the shape of the yard? We'd come down the hill directly towards the street with the John Deere, and bounce at the bottom of the crease -- almost a ditch in its own right -- which was just a few inches above the fragile culvert tile beneath.
Last year I buried the front wheel of the lawn tractor in a hole here, which turned out to be the result of a collapsed chunk of the tile culvert.
Lessons learned -- tile=fragile, smooth=better, dig=work

... today, it's such a novelty, coffee shops have made a business out of it. today, right at this moment, in the haze of caffein and competing arts - the music, the artwork on the walls, the life of the coffee bean and the farmers tending to it, the architecture outdoors and the poetry in the journals and papers - downtime alone and conversation are packaged in small, round tables, coffee and chocolate, trendy music and artwork, a dash of the activist and the environmentalist. it tastes hurried. you have to shut out the world and fight for your space.
but the shop never looses its pleasant ambiance. i'm still able to blog. everyone is enviously looking at how i indulge in quiet time. if only they knew how i experience it less and less. [ more ]
St. Petersburg, FL is home to one less pink building.
Park Street and Central Avenue. I can't remember the name
of the building, because I always called it The Pink Hotel on Park Street (as opposed to the one on Gulf Blvd, the Don Cesar).
In fact, I think it hasn't been a hotel for the past few years, but a sort of retirement home. As far as I can tell by the "Restaurant Space Available" sign (not shown here), it is going to be a hotel again. In which case, I'd say it is folly to take away its signature pink as that's a popular color for tourist locations in Florida.

I'm not going to call it cheap gas, since I can remember paying 89¢ a gollon. So I'll call it less expensive
