" Come away O human child to the waters and the wild,
For this World`s more full of weeping,
Than you can understand "
[ " The Stolen Child " W. B. Yeats ]
My good friend Michael Freethy who lives in Maine, USA says that the two human like shadows in the foreground on the l/h/s are " Fir Dhearga ". I know Fir is Gaelge for Men but I dont know what the other word means. " Dearg " means the colour red so it might mean Leprachauns. I would imagine its Spirits of some type.. It wouldnt surprise me. Spooky in the wood that and I did feel strange! I mean stranger than I usually feel! Very strange!!! Lol! There are lots of old tumble down cottages from the famine times of 1847-51 as well as "Booley" cottages around there.[ See below ] Im intrigued now and Ill have to go back for another look. Best wishes.

P@t.
Apparently, I'm bringing out my own Aftershave now 😂😂. Uncharted by Nathan Drake. A Fragrance with slight tones of Guinness, Jameson Whiskey and the tears of Leprachauns.
I located the hidden Leprachaun Gold somewhere in the Rhine Plain, at the end of the rainbow.
In the background, the northern Black Forest.
Then there are always my little green Bayou Leprechauns which are always entertaining. He/she didn’t want to step out in the light but he did stick around long enough for a couple of snaps. Green Heron foraging near the water’s edge on Horsepen bayou.
And once again, it’s all about the EXTREMELY slow and deliberate approach when you try to capture one of these characters. It’s always best sometime to back off and allow them to get into the hunting groove before you try to get close. Doing this type of photography doesn’t mean that you’ll be going a great distance while you are canoeing.

I guess that people wonder why I find Green Herons so fascinating and I’ll attempt to explain just one aspect of that with a series of captures. I normally go for quality vs. quantity with my posts, but I’ll make an exception in this case because it tells a story. If you’re a Green Heron you locate a prime fishing spot over the bayou. Mind you, it can be the spindliest branch that you can find, but in the case of a TENNATIONS Green Heron, that’s not a huge problem. Dangling from that wobbly branch will work perfectly strike after strike after strike as long as the baitfish continue to swim by and that pesky clown in the canoe doesn’t run over me. The Greenies are one of THE most INTENSE birds that I have ever seen in action and will do literally ANYTHING to make a catch. This one didn’t do a complete launch into the water and fly back to the branch, but I have seen them make that move as well. They are extremely clever little characters and have also been known to use bait to lure fish into range. This Greenie was getting his fill clinging to this branch over Horsepen Bayou. Not my best shots, but hopefully they tell a story.
Just a footnote that this is not a sequence of shots but multiple shots the same Green Heron fishing from this not so stable limb.

I found some more of these mushrooms and had to do this, just for fun.

This lovely ancient Beech wood sits on the edge of the glacial valley of Glencullen, just North of the Wicklow border in County Dublin..
There is something mystical about these place. When you enter in, the silence seems to come down, apart from the leaves which seem to whisper a secret message to you alone. The green just envelops everything and tints the atmosphere and the noise of the outside world just evaporates with the gray twisted trunks looking like contorted figures watching your every move. The undergrowth takes on a wonderful purpleish hue and seems to have a life of its own Perhaps its over imagination but no not for me. I have talked to others who experience similar feelings though each one is different.
In ancient mythology of course, these were the dwelling place of the Tuatha De Dannan, a small statured race of people with magical power who lived at one with nature. The Celts invaded Ireland and defeated them. These people went underground and lived in forts, now know as fairy forts or raths or in woods and river valleys and hidden places. You know when you are in them as a feeling comes over you that is hard to explain. The entrance to these places is normally under a Hawthorn tree which is sacred and woe betide anyone who interferes with it.
They are still there to this day and are the modern invention of the fairy made popular by the Victorians and the dreadful Leprachaun, a German spirit hijacked by Hollywood and given a new identity!. Indeed, its similar to the Green Man in English culture.
If they do exist surely it is in places such as these.
Eamonn Morrisey, a well know actor who lives not far from here tells a wonderful story which he swears is true
There is a fairy mound at the back of his house and he and his wife often sit up on it and take it easy. Suddenly one evening his wife took terribly ill and was rushed to hospital.
They found she had severe internal bleeding and they couldnt diagnose what was causing it. They were told that she might not make it.
Eamonn found a bunch of hawthorn blossom in the house and when he enquire`d from his wife she said she had picked it off a tree on the mound Eamonn said he went back up the mound and returned the hawthorn. He said he made peace with them, and within twenty four hours, his wife recovered fully. Its part of a documentary that he made for tv.
There are many such stories.Farmers getting killed by overturning ploughs or tractors while digging up these trees or going gray overnight or there young child been taken and replaces with a spirit child {a changelling]
There is a famous true report of such an imagined instance that lead to murder. See attached link.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bridget_Cleary
Farmers publically laugh at these things but I have watched them plough around these trees so as not to disturb them.
My ex wife had a wonderful aunt called Mary. She died in England a few years ago, aged 95 having went to England during the war where she met and married a Canadian RAF pilot. A well grounded and tough lady not subject to flights of fancy { Well maybe with her pilot husband!!! Nice one!!! }
She lived on a farm here in a place called Style Bawn, which means the white stile. When she was fifteen, she was on her way home through the field one summers evening. She met a tiny woman, crossing the stile who was dressed completely in green from head to toe. Mary was taken aback put decided to pass her. As she passed the lady spoke to her in Gaelic, wishing her a good evening. Mary turned to watch her and she went through a gap in the hedge on the other side of the field. She swears its true and its possible.
Sometimes there are warning given of impending disasters or deaths by these spirit, the Banshee being the most famous.
The three knock on the door is a warning that follows my family. I have heard it when my own passed away.
When my Dad married my Mam they lived for a while in her mothers cottage in Shankill. She had a sister, who was known as great aunt Mary Anne. She was a stunning looking woman, a real lady, who traveled the World on the great ocean going liners of the 20s, as a ladies companion though Im of the opinion that there was more to it than that. Of course in those days these things were hidden. Thankfully we have moved forward and particularly here.
One night, at about 11, my Dad, Mam, Granny and Aunt and Uncle were sitting by the fire when a knock came to the door. The house was very isolated so it was unusual. My dad opened the door but there was no one there. He went and checked outside but there was no one around. It happened a second and a third time and the door wouldnt open. They all pulled at it to no avail. |My dad was a carpenter and doors that he fitted always opened. My grandmother said it was a warning of a death and it followed the family. After a few minutes the door opened normally. They got word the next morning that Mary Anne had died in America from gangarene poisoning caused from an ingrown toenail!!! I kid you not!!! Indeed this affliction is inherent in my family and I suffer from the same complaint!!!
Unbelievable really, but true! Id better get me feet seen to!!! lol!
In this often hard and unforgiving World, sometimes its no harm to sit back and think about these wonderful things its good for you and saves on psychiatrists bills. Its a well known fact that its good for mind and body. If tree hugging is your thing, why not!!!
All these old places are very special to me anyway, and there is more to them than you can see.
Have a great day!!!!
Pat.
Update to my friends :
Thank you all for your input and lovely comments on my photo and story. Its very much appreciated. The stories were related to me directly. The three knocks on the door is one 100 per cent true. It was told to me as a young child of 10 by my Father, a well grouded, well read no nonsense man who did not tell false stories, my aunt Bridie and my Mother who were there at the time.My Dad told me that he was very frightened of it.I have never read of a similar incident anywhere else and its so unusual that I do believe it.
Normally I am a very sceptical person but I have experienced 2 incidents that were not imagined in the least and I cant explain. There are places with special feelings to them and they are not all graveyards in the middle of the night. Ask anyone who has been to Daccu, the Nazi extermination camp in Poland where millions were executed and as them what they experiences and they will tell you of the feelongs of terror and pure evil that they encountered.I came accross the same thing in the Colleseum in Rome many years ago and started to shiver and a feeling of pure evil came over me. I had to run out of the place. There were 17 of us and 3 others had the same emotions as myself. In Ireland they call people who experience this stuff, somene who "is Close". My mother was this way. She would dream that a certain person was chasing her.She would tell me in the morning that she had dreamed about a certain person chasing her on the previous night. She was always a young child in her dreams and in her mothers cottage in Shankill. In the dream she always hid under the kitchen table to get away.
Within days, we would hear that the person involved had passed away. It was always someone she new well..She had the dream the night her mother died and was telling me about it when the postman came to the door with a telegram. She had already told me that something was wrong. Its very unusual.Perhaps I inherit a certain amount of stuff from her but I dont have dreams like that. Its more of feeling a presence with me and I can here whispers in my surroundings. I dont know what they are saying but it is nice and happy .And no, its not voices telling me to kill someon which is a common enough excuse!!!! It can to me happen anytime. Day or night and even in the middle of the rush hour in the city. It also happens in certain places on the mountains here or in woods as this one here.I have returned to these places many times and the feelings always re occur. I dont have an explanation and I cant even decipher it but it is very real and not in the least bit frightening.I am very lucky to have this as I get great feelings of happiness and comfort from them. I really dont know what a psychiatrist would make of me in this one regard and Im not going to ask either!!! Lol! I did have a stroke 5 years ago from which i recovered totally, thankfully. I went under very comprensive brain tests at that time including epileptic ones where the wire your brain to a machine and buzz you with all sorts of lights to see if you will react. It was amazing. Im told it is like a trip on lsd. Not that I would ever go there, but Id like to own one of those machines though!!! Anyone got 5 million? They found nothing.Brain dead obviously!!! So Im no more a nutter than anyone else thankfully!
Anyway, thats how it is and I know there are others on here who have similar experiences.

There’s no use searching for the end of the rainbow on earth – true luck is found where you least expect it. 🌈✨
As Saint Patrick’s Day comes to an end, may the luck of the leprechaun stay with you, and may the glow of golden coins light up your days ahead. Wishing you a peaceful, joyful evening filled with good thoughts! 🍀🌙
There's no gold, but a rather far drop at the end of this rainbow. You just can't trust those pesky leprachauns.
about crawling around one's front garden, getting soaking wet and getting down to the level of the mushrooms.
The previous week I had been in the forest, got some mushroom shots (which will surface one day!) but was actually disappointed because in all my wanderings I had only found one crop.
When Shane told me about the mushrooms in our garden, I knew why I hadn't seen them in the forest, they had all sprung up on our lawn!
Now, imagine yourself as a fairy (elf or imp or, in our case a teeny leprachaun), dancing round the velvet shanks and getting bounced on the head by the rain drops.
What fun!

EXPLORED, THOSE FAIRIES WAVED THEIR WANDS
A little Irish corn snow doesn't dampen the last-minute holiday shopping spirit!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday!!
I was recently tagged by one of my contacts so here is a list of 15 things about me (instead of the usual 10). I've posted some of these before so don't feel obligated to read it! :)
1. My favorite color is blue. I'm Pisces so I think it's in my nature to be happy by the color blue. It's calming and peaceful too which is always a good thing.
2. I support the VVA..Vietnam Veterans of America. I donate as much as possible to them in honor of my Uncle Larry who died from a brain tumor after being exposed to Agent Orange.
3. Life is more fun when you believe...so I believe in everything: Karma, God, bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, faeries, leprachauns, that there was a second shooter on the grassy knoll, Aliens, time travel, Santa Claus, the Skunk Ape, the Jersey Devil, that it takes more than three licks to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop, that Middle Earth is a real place and I will find it one day, that Hogwarts is a real school and I will get accepted one day and so on and so on. However, there are two things I don't believe in: The Rapture and that Elvis is Alive (see #4).
4. I totally believe in a spirit world and have had many experiences, both good and bad with ghosts. I try to stay in haunted places anytime I travel somewhere. I've been bullied by a poltergeist, felt up by the spirit of Branwell Bronte, seen a 17th Century dude standing at the door, had practical jokes pulled on my by a ghost name Hank in Savannah and had visits from my great-grandparents, my Uncle Larry and Elvis (I'm not kidding).
5. I own a pair of Rose-colored glasses which may explain numbers 3 & 4.
6. Although we have no children of our own, we have 20 nieces & nephews, 2 great-nieces, two great-nephews, 4 godchildren and Daniel and Leanne who are like a niece and nephew to me. Needless to say, Christmas is EXPENSIVE!
7. My favorite place in the entire world is the Yorkshire Dales in England.
8. I think a full life is better than a full wallet.
9. I love living in South Florida...I especially love the Everglades and feel blessed that I live so close to an abundance of nature, some of which I get to see everyday on our lake.
10. My favorite quote is by Ayn Rand: "I need no warrant for being, and no word of sanction upon my being. I am the warrant and the sanction."
11. I've never lost a game of Trivial Pursuit.
12. My mom is my favorite person to travel with. Except when we are in a pub and she's telling me, her 40-something daughter to eat her vegetables.
13. Shakespeare and Moliere are my favorite playwrights. I'm OBSESSED with Oscar Wilde. I also love Jane Austen and Truman Capote. I love to read English Literature and Historical Fiction.
14. I listen to all kinds of music but my current favorite is World Music. Putumayo puts out really great CDs with a variety of world music. I love Loreena McKennitt...she has the voice of an angel and I love that she puts music to English literature, poems and prose.
15. My dream trips are Macchu Picchu, Easter Island, The Galapagos Islands, To trek across New Zealand, an African Safari and to go to the North Pole.

Everyone had a great green day. The sun was out and kept us warm. The Guinness kept us from getting parched. And, the day was started with green pancakes!
The kids were excited to see that the leprachauns broke into school, made a mess and left gold coins for them all to find.
We caught this magic elf trying to sneak into my son's house and steal the candy and lucky charms. I think he was still a bit bedazzled from drinking to much green beer at a St. Patrick's day celebration.. We said we would let him go if we granted us 3 wishes. So now we no longer have to do taxes, no more junk mail to sort through and we always will find a parking space when we visit the beach. We will see soon enough if this rascal was pulling our leg.
A crowd waits to enter the Aragon Ballroom for a performance of Lectric Leprachaun. In a congested urban area, where a popular music venue has little parking, ques form in unusual places. A mural adds ambiance.
Hey, hay, hay.... It's friggin' raining!!
Wishing you a thoroughly inebriating St. Patrick's Day!
If you're going to drink and drive, be sure you're in a trolley!! Sláinte!
This was a joint 60th and 90th birthday cake ordered by Marie, the only theme she could come up with was Ireland as the family came from that way. I asked 'how Irish?' thinking Book of Kells or an Irish knot and she replied "Leprachaun Irish" So I went as green as I could!
I was actually able to see the end of the rainbow fall into Greenwich Cove. The leprachaun must have been in a wet suit under the water with his pot 'o gold.
If only I could reach the rainbow, I would pull it down and write your name on it, then put it back in the sky, so people would know just how colorful my life has been with you in it.
I was lucky enough to be at the end of a rainbow today! Not photoshopped - this is how it appeared to the naked eye :-)
ODC2 - Our Daily Challenge - Green
This is what happens when you really don't know what to capture! You take this and that and the other thing - then don't know which to choose. So here is a selection with lots of green and "shamrocks" to celebrate St Patrick's Day.
Thanks for visiting! Your comments are always appreciated!
I wish you all the "Luck of the Irish" today and in the future! :-)
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
Mill Ends, the world's smallest park, is located in SW Naito Parkway at SW Taylor St in Portland, Oregon. It is known to be the home of leprechauns. This week it was littered with the bodies of plastic soldiers. (View large to see them in the lower right-hand photo.) There must have been a bloody battle with the leprechauns.
