The Devastator is the largest known ship in the Alien fleet. With a Bionium crystal energy generator powering the main laser cannon, the vessel is capable of destroying nearly any target on the ground or in orbit. Two assault turrets and a parasite fighter help defend against enemy attack. The antigravity ring in the rear allows for flight to and from orbit, while the three fusion engines provide forward thrust. When landing, the antigravity ring rotates to a horizontal position while four landing legs extend to support the spacecraft.
This was a really fun build, albeit a bit rushed to finish in time. To date, this is my largest single model as well as the most complex. The hardest part was making sure the aft, ring-shaped part of the hull was sturdy enough to support itself, closely followed by the technic mechanism to simultaneously extend all four landing legs and rotate the antigravity ring. Additionally, this was also my first attempt at a parabolic airframe.

I shot Elena in manual mode with no flash in the afternoon on a nice day with adequate light. This portrait was shot in the dumpster yard of my apartment, on the steps leading up to cafe milano. I used manual mode so I could adjust the settings to create an ideal exposure. The subject was standing about 10 feet from the camera. I used a fixed lens so I stood at a distance such that I would frame the top half of my subject's body. I used the high aperture, f/1.8, in order to capture a great depth of field for the portrait and bring emphasis to my subject's face. The blurred background draws the attention away from it and toward Elena. Since it was a rather bright day, I used a very fast shutter speed so the photo would not turn out overexposed. The lens I used was a Canon 50 mm/1.8 lens, and it is very good for taking portraits. I framed my subject using the rule of thirds, as you can see, her face to body is in the middle third while the left arm is in the left third. The arm on the slanted railing looks nice too, and it helps frame her body.
If you are travelling in Thailand for any length of time, there is one iconic image that you may see crop up time and again on postcards and in guide-books. The photograph of a Buddha head entwined within the roots of a tree is one of the most recognizable images from Thailand.
The location of this site is Wat Mahathat in Ayutthaya. This ancient temple was built during the 14th century, but was reduced to ruins in 1767 when the Burmese army invaded Ayutthaya, the capital of Siam. The temple was destroyed by the Burmese who also vandalised many of the Buddha images in Ayutthaya by lopping off the heads. The area remained abandoned and overgrown until the 1950s when the Department of Fine Art began restoration work in Ayutthaya. Nobody knows for certain how the Buddha head became entwined in the roots of the tree. One theory suggests that the tree simply grew around the Buddha head during the period when the temple lay abandoned and overgrown. Another theory is that a thief moved the Buddha head away from the main temple to hide it. This may have happened in the early 1900s when it is known that one of the remaining areas of the temple collapsed and consequently led to treasure hunters digging in the area. After moving the stone Buddha head away from the ruined main temple, it is possible the thief never returned for his treasure or couldn’t move it any further beyond the walls that surround the temple. Instead, the stone Buddha head was abandoned by the wall not far from the entrance of Wat Mahathat where it can be seen today nestled in the tree roots which have grown around it.
When visiting this location please remember it is a sacred site. The presence of a guard and a discrete chain are there to remind visitors of the fact that they cannot touch the statue. You may take photos, but to be respectful these should be taken from a kneeling position.

Park Avenue Trail
Length: 2 miles round trip
Difficulty: Easy.
Description: The Park Avenue Trail is one of the first major attractions within Arches National Park. It is a one-mile trail that follows the bottom of a canyon at the feet of some of the park’s gigantic, and well-known monoliths.
The Three Gossips, the Courthouse Towers, Queen Nefertiti and Queen Victoria Rock, the Organ, and the Tower of Babel are all visible from the road as visitors drive up towards Balanced Rock and Delicate Arch, but there is a large difference in experience when actually hiking through them. All of these natural wonders are famous and oft-photographed.
Park Avenue Trailhead
The lower trailhead is located on the Arches Entrance Road, 2.5 miles north of the visitors center, off to the north side of the road. The parking lot has a paved walkway that heads 320 feet to a Viewpoint. From there, there is a well-worn trail that heads down the Avenue and towards the Courthouse Towers Parking Lot.
The Courthouse Towers
The massive sandstone towers that make up the western background of Park Avenue are called the Courthouse Towers. Like the prows of enormous ships, these landmarks jut out into the desert below, some of them over 600 feet tall.
The Organ
The Organ is a smaller monolith just to the south of the Tower of Babel, off to the right side of the Arches Entrance Road. The Courthouse Towers parking lot sits off to the west flank of the Organ.

The Tower of Babel
The Tower of Babel is located to the north of the Courthouse Towers, standing just above Courthouse Wash, north of the Organ and beside the Entrance Road.

Females reach a body length of about 13 mm, males up to 8 mm.
These spiders are most often found in moist areas, especially near water. The web is built between grass or in low shrubbery. They hide during the day in a silken retreat that opens at the bottom, masked with plant and animal matter and leave it during the night. The web is remade in the evening.
The male lives with the female during mating time, which is in autumn, and again in spring. The female produces three to five yellow egg sacs during the summer.
