So this is 'Helmut Schmidt', a yellow hybrid tea-rose from Kordes Roses of Germany, but flowering here in my garden in the Hills District of Sydney.

'Helmut Schmidt' was named after Helmut Schmidt, the Chancellor of Germany from 1974 to 1982. He died, aged 96, in 2015.

This yellow rose has a strong and upright growth habit with long-stemmed, clear yellow blooms that are perfect as cut flowers. It has a soft, light fragrance.

It is said that yellow roses convey optimism, warmth, joy and happiness – all the feelings associated with new, or young, romance, and, as such, may be better to give to a new girlfriend than red roses. But I am not sure about this, because nothing beats the fragrance of a red rose such as 'Mr Lincoln' or 'Papa Meilland'.
