So the final train of our over two week bash was diverted via Monchengladbach (run round) then Top & tail from Aachen, banked by diesel 5536 out of Liege & the train locos swopped round at Brussels Zuid. I hope we weren't going for a particular sailing!
Lemgo werd rond 1190 gesticht door Bernhard II van Lippe op het kruispunt van twee belangrijke handelswegen: die van Utrecht naar Brunswijk en die van Keulen en Paderborn naar Bremen. Vanaf 1295 was het lid tot de Hanze. Het zou lang de voornaamste stad van het Lipperland blijven.
In 1527 ging Lemgo over tot de reformatie. Toen het graafschap Lippe later gereformeerd werd, bleef de stad Lemgo als enige plaats in het graafschap luthers. In 1584 gingen de graven het Slot Brake bewonen, dat zich nog steeds bij Lemgo bevindt. Tussen 1667 en 1683 vond in Lemgo een groot aantal heksenprocessen plaats.
Tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog werd Lemgo niet gebombardeerd, waardoor het historische stadscentrum grotendeels in zijn oorspronkelijke staat bewaard is gebleven.

built 1568-71 by Hermann Wulff for the merchant Hermann Kruwel (or Crüwell). Its name comes from the fact that
it was occupied from 1667-1683 by Bürgermeister Hermann Cothmann, who was one of the leaders of the witch hunts in Lemgo
This must be a reference to Matthew 7:3 : "And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?" I have not found aniy info about the carving.
Eurobahn VT2.02 als ERB 84274 im Bahnhof Lemgo. Der Übergang zu den Linienbussen gelingt hier ohne weitere Barrieren.
