Been having a lot of problems using the MP-E65 so far , so haven't posted anything.

Decided that I had better upload something to look back upon and laugh at when I get used to it , so here is a fumbled attempt at an aphid , top image 1:1 @ f8, Iso 200 and way too slow a shutter speed at 1/25 should have been more like 1/200.

Lower image 5x probably still at f8..... diffraction heaven!!!

Using this purely as a bench mark.

Upon reflection , too slower shutter speed , flash not diffused enough , as for the lower pic ... all the same & Effective f-number = f-number x (Magnification +1) rule straight out the window.

TOP IMAGE BEST VIEWED ON BLACK. not that's its really worth viewing :-)

From a available light test shoot at my Studio Portraiture class, with Ksenia in front of the camera for this shot, and Anthony holding a gold reflector for the light source on the right.

This was the best one. Now needs to be iced.

The two cuffs in the foreground were finished AFTER the glass of wine... and the realization that I could NOT stitch through all of that fabric with the needle I had in the machine... DUH, Julee!

I'd like to point out that I'm not suffering from a chronic attack of narcissism. I recently bought a Speedlite and have been learning how to use it (i.e. tearing my hair out) and work out how the thing interacts with the camera, and I like contrasty B&W portraits and I'm the most available person in the house to take pictures of.

So far I've found out that E-TTL is an anagram for a japanese phrase which means "Intermediately Random Metering To Drive The User Mad". Although it's actually more likely that I'm confusing the camera with my "unique" approach to taking a shot!

But this shot is starting to approach the sort of thing I'm after. Do let me know what you think - good or bad...

Hello flickr world!

This has been a trying week or two. My pc was pretty full and I was having trouble trying to edit photos in Photoshop 6.

So, I made the jump to a 24" iMac today, and up to Photoshop CS3. Holy cow, that's an expensive program!!!!!

Now I feel like I'm working on a computer with welding gloves on because I don't know macs and things work differently on macs. Argh!!!!!

I know that everything will be fine in time, but I hate this learning curve bit.

.zack! I'm still coming to Germany

To all German fans, I'm sorry about the football match!
