10/4/07 – Countdown of my top 3 superpower choices. A short what if series.

The ability to produce fire obviously has many practical uses. Can see in the dark if the electricity goes out, stay warm in the event of being lost in the Alaskan wilderness, don’t have to spend a half hour hunting down matches to light a candle, to name a few. Also, as a smoker, this superpower definitely comes in handy.

What to expect with Heroes of Newerth

Steep, steep learning curve with the D300. I do miss the simplicity of my D50. Adjusting it just felt natural...with the D300 the buttons are not where they ought to be - yet.

Danger: Steep learning curve ahead.

This was my first attempt at baking bread and was intended to be a rye sourdough. I lovingly prepared the sourdough starter over four days following the guidance in Andrew Whitley's Bread Matters, but when it came to the final stage, well, not much happened. I could tell it wasn't right before it went into the oven but I wanted to see what would happen anyway.

Result: one rye rubber brick. Completely inedible. Undaunted, I've saved a little of the original starter and I'm now adding to that for another go at it... fingers crossed.

I just made a really big totally crazy purchase. I should NOT have done it, but I did. I don't think I will regret it.

strobist: Canon Speedlite 430 @ 1/2, Cactus V2S mounted on Gorillapod hanging from overhead light with DIY honeycomb grid with focal length @ 80mm. the color is from the red posterboard background.

I got a new phone right after Christmas. I upgraded from my BlackJack II to a new Blackberry. I'm still learning what it does and how to do it. However, I did figure the camera out right away. For a phone camera, it takes pretty good shots, including a flash, which my last cameraphone didn't have. Gremlin wasn't too thrilled with the flash, but I like the shot!

scanned on the scanner's 'bad side' with the line. my third shot with the new 'first flush' impossible project film. this one should have been kept warmer while developing. i wrote about this new film here.

Madeline and Pepito heads on vintage SSC bodies after the tragic and traumatic dog chewing episode. Pepito's hair got mussed up during the operation so he is going to have to have the sock back on his head.

This is the second version of this pic, as I found it as a bit too dark (And hence more saturated) on PC monitors. You guessed it, I did this on a Macbook, which has different brightness settings to PCs!

PS Check out Amber and Ant's versions of the same setup.

This is Learning Curve, because learning to do ruler work is way bigger than a breadbox!

The first nuthatch I've seen in ages... knew they had nested in the woods but hadn't spied any since. These are from my first trip out with the 70D, focus not quite perfect - think that is me, not the camera! (managed other sharp shots later in the morning of other subjects) but these seem to have a sort of 'watercolour' feel to them that I rather like.
