This is a daily (at least) scene at our house: Alice pestering one of the cats, and Jamie pulling her away and correcting her before she gets whacked.

Jamie does this if it's Ike (above) or Fish. If it's Murg, he chases her on sight. Ike and Fish have often chased Murg for fun, so I guess that's the culture Jamie was raised in.

My first attempt at making a movie with the E-PL1. Talk about learning by doing.... still, I think it conveys the idea of what it's like down there right now, even though it took me a while to figure out the focusing (keep the shutter half-pressed - duh!).

We visited the area around the multi-function hall or station of Faido, one of two future underground emergency stations. The two main tunnels, 57km each, are nearly completely dug out. At this point in Faido, they are already lined with concrete and are waiting for the electrical work and the final high-speed rails to be laid.

The workers work (can anyone think of a better synonym?) around the clock in three eight-hour shifts. They go on for nine days, then have four days off. There are general holidays in August and over Christmas. Wages are very good, and safety levels are high; nevertheless, there have been seven casualties since work started, all but one due to accidents with the various vehicles: only one was hit by a falling rock, which I found remarkable given that the men are working with up to 2.5km of rock over them.

Kiddo has become very attached to the HBC Gallery in the HBC store downtown -- it's a mini-museum in two rooms offering the history of the Hudson's Bay Company with displays and interactive media stations (films on flatscreen tvs, a quiz-station, a telephone and two other handsets, and an old-fashioned radio). And it's free.
