Roadtested several times this last week and various adjustments made in readiness for MOT test (very soon I hope)
Loyola University New Orleans is now partnering with the center through its service learning program, placing college students there to help mentor, tutor and sometimes just listen to the kids. The students help with homework, coach youth basketball teams, lead music and arts activities, and give computer tutoring to children who might otherwise be exposed to unsafe or unhealthy alternatives. The first 100 adult and children participants of the Houston Public Library’s Toyota Family Learning program celebrated their joint accomplishments in the classroom, home and community in a graduation ceremony on June 10, 2014. Toyota Family Learning is a family learning program that aims to position families for success through comprehensive learning workshops that strengthen the whole family. The family centered learning workshops include dedicated parenting classes, parent and child family time, child time, mentoring, technology skills training and community service learning opportunities. The families will be equipped with the knowledge, tools, and resources necessary to achieve real quality of life change for themselves and their community.
The Houston Public Library’s Toyota Family Learning Program is being implemented in partnership with Collaborative for Children and Houston Community College System. Toyota Family Learning is a national initiative of the National Center for Families Learning (NCFL) developed with generous funding from Toyota. I think she was too young for school (in China, school starts at age 6) so she was getting a head start on reading on her own practising from pages ripped out of a book she probably found in the garbage.

This young girl was getting riding lessons from her mother. I'm thinking the seat was too low and perhaps a riding lesson when you might fall shouldn't be done in a dress! Her mother was very patient and the girl was a good sport!
I'm learning how to use photo shop at evening class. This is after my third lesson and although I am slow on the up take, I am quite pleased with this.
Found this little guy on the ground flopping around trying to fly. He was directly below a nest that had a few other babies that hadnt actually gave an attempt yet. I gave him a little tour of the backyard and then put him back in the nest with his siblings.

My brother Eric learning to ride a bike, Looks as he may have fallen once all ready (Wet shirt). Nice panning for a kid with a camera at age.....maybe 7 or 8 if he is 5 or 6??? The awesome Flash bar model number EX433sb800 probally saved me here.Stop action! HAHA :)) No finer bike or Father will you find today! Seems the good stuff is all used up and gone.... Or maybe they keep the GOOD stuff in China.
The Peter P. Mercer Learning Commons, which houses the George T. Potter Library as well as group study spaces, computer workstations, the ITS Help Desk, the Center for Reading & Writing, and more is now open. Students are beginning to enjoy the new space.
On Sunday, November 27, 2016 two Venturer Companies came out for an introduction to Judo at the Burnaby Judo Club. Great fun was had, bodies were thrown, and on Monday, some tired, happy teenagers will wake up feeling a bit like a truck hit them :)
