On March 3rd at 6:21pm, Woodstock Fire/Rescue was dispatched for a motor vehicle accident involving a Woodstock Police Officer at Route 14 and Dean St. The officer was extracted from his squad car and was transported via OSF Life Flight to St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford.
Woodstock, Illinois
News obtained from the Northwest Herald:
WOODSTOCK – A Woodstock police officer had to be extricated from an unmarked squad car and flown to a hospital Monday after a three-vehicle accident.
At 6:24 p.m., a 15-year-old male motorist from Woodstock, driving on a learner's permit, was waiting to turn left from westbound Route 14 onto Dean Street. When he turned left, he struck an unmarked Woodstock squad car, which was traveling eastbound on Route 14. The squad car then hit a vehicle facing north waiting on Dean Street.
Officer Eric Schmidtke was driving a Ford Interceptor and had to be extricated from the vehicle. He was transported to Woodstock Hospital, and subsequently flown to St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rockford, according to a press release from the McHenry County Sheriff's office.
He was released from the hospital late last night, according to McHenry County Sheriff's Deputy Aimee Knop.
The traffic signal for eastbound and westbound Rt. 14 was green at the time of crash, the release said.
Because of the extra equipment in the squad car, such as the computer, radio and weapons, it took longer to conduct the extrication, Ryan said.
The juvenile driver and his adult passenger were taken to Centegra Hospital – Woodstock, where they were treated and released, Knop said.
The names of the juvenile and others involved in the crash were not released.
Eastbound Route 14 was shut down for about two hours after the accident, Ryan said.
The sheriff's office is investigating the crash because a Woodstock officer was involved.
Knop said the juvenile was cited for failure to yield when turning left at an intersection. She said everyone involved was wearing a seat belt, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor.
The officer was believed to be performing normal driving, Knop said.

* A 42sec video of GBRf Route Learner 66777 crossing the last of the locks on the Tinsley Flight..
Apologies for the repeated shutter sound, but its a real focal plane shutter with mirror flip and the latter can't be switched off; though Live View exposures, where the mirror is held up would solve the problem at the expense of a reduced number of exposures... In addition, due to the water flowing over the top of the up-stream lock gate, it wasn't possible to tell exactly when the loco was to appear, so ... a two and a half minute video was taken and then subsequently edited to remove all the wait at the beginning which was used to pan around the area; a shorter section of which was shot at the end after the loco had passed over the Shepcote Lane canal bridge. This is GBRf class 66, 66777, 'Annette, on the 2nd return, 0Z24, Tinsley Yard(GBRf) to Doncaster Roberts Road Shed and it will be stood waiting, fortunately, at Woodburn's W0208 signal for moves off the Tinsley Yard line back onto the main line, for about 20 minutes, enough time for another move of venue and the appearance of another Flickr photographer.
While humans have acquired so many things from animals, the intelligent animals like the macaques also learn to and use the tools invented by humans. Watch these baby bonnet macaques drink from the water tap.
Enjoy the video in HD (1080i) quality and listen to the narration of what happened between us on that day in Vedanthangal!
Glad to see that bus drivers are considered professionals - I do wonder sometimes as I avoid these thundering behomoths when the lights turn to red!

I have never photographed cars so I decided to begin small. A toy car seemed the perfect "vehicle" on which to practice. Do you know how many toy cars there are to choose from? I spent 20 minutes standing in front of the stand and ended up selecting the Zotic, an Art Cars from Hot Wheels.
I am truly a "P" plate photographer of cars. 🚘
The car in which I first learned to drive outside the family home in Pinfarthings, Glos. WEA 242S was an underpowered Cortina 1.3L, pretty much the bottom of the range. Quite a forgiving car for a learner though, the clutch was kind to the novice and it took so long to get up to speed that there was little chance of exceeding the speed limit!
By a strange coincidence, a good few years later I spotted it outside the Haematology Lab at Gloucester Royal Hospital where I worked and it turned out that it was now owned by one of the girls who worked in the laboratory office. It was still in quite good nick, even the big patch of rust I spent several hours painting over one Saturday Afternoon.
Jasmine is 7 today. She is the life of the party, loves to play. One of her favorite things to do is yodel at me when she wants me to do something with her or gets excited about going somewhere. Jasmine would play all day if Blueberry or Chauncey would join, if they won't she will get a toy and smack them or poke them with it trying to get them to chase her. A quick learner, I spend most of my training slowing her down and making her think about what she is doing. Happy birthday to my goofball puppy.

And a teacher as well.
