America’s Sweethearts dazzle Yongsan
By Staff Sgt. Cody Harding

YONGSAN GARRISON - The Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders, America’s Sweethearts, put on a full day of entertainment for the Soldiers and Families of Yongsan Garrison as part of their worldwide USO tour Dec. 18.
The cheerleaders, who were on their 31st such event in the Republic of Korea, started their day with a visit to the K-16 Airfield, where they entertained and spent time with the Aviation units on the post. There, they shared lunch with the Soldiers, took time out for autographs and photos, and even held a small performance on the base.
Their next stop took them to Collier Community Fitness Center, where they hosted a cheerleading ‘clinic’, an open house teaching event for the youth of Yongsan. They stopped to talk with the young girls who came to learn from the athletes, as well as take pictures and sign autographs for them.
Eric Yim, FMWR coordinator for Area II, said that putting together the show was a concerted effort by the USO, FMWR, Armed Forces Entertainment and volunteers from the Community. This was his fourth year helping host the event.
“It makes me feel good because our Community members are having a great time out here with the Soldiers during the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders show,” Yim said.
At the end of the day, America’s Sweethearts ended their visit with a large show, complete with songs, dances and even presents for lucky Cowboys fans in the audience. After their performance, Col. William Huber, the Yongsan Garrison commander, presented each cheerleader with his coin as a show of appreciation.
Working on the event left John O’Connor, a recreation specialist with the Moyer Communities Activity Center, with a sense of accomplishment for being part of the team that put the show together for Yongsan.
“Mainly gratification that we’re able to put on something for the Community,” O’Connor said. “Especially since it is tough being overseas and away from their natural Communities back home.”

CAMP HUMPHREYS — Dog lovers here gathered for Pet Fest 2012 at the Humphreys Veterinary Clinic May 5. The event featured the paws walk, a pet show, face painting, an agility course, pet photos, informational booths, a military working dog demonstration and an awards ceremony.
“We are really happy with the turnout and excited to be a part of the Camp Humphreys community,” said Capt. Amy Carlson, officer in charge at the Humphreys vet clinic. “We have many events such as face painting, doggy treats and grooming. Humphreys has been great to us and we have received lots of support. We look forward to continuing events like this today.”
The American Red Cross participated in the event to offer knowledge about pet first aid, while the Osan Animal Shelter provided information on pet adoptions.
The dog show had categories such as owner/pet lookalike, best dressed, best pet trick and best in show. Rocko, owned by Blair Bogle, was the biggest winner of the day, winning first prizes in owner/pet lookalike and best in show categories.
“This is a great opportunity to hang out with dog lovers and people with the same hobbies,” said pet owner Tom Stout. “This event also provided information for people who are PCS’ing and have pets with them. This was a fun day.”

Another frame of this picture perfect scene from this fun and predictable chase that is one of the best in New England.
This northbound chase on a sunny day really will offer only two nose lit shots. The premiere spot is of course splitting the signals entering the property at Rollinsford, but this is the other one. Honestly, I'd never shot here before and the s-curve and slot of light through the tree was a bit reminiscent of 'crazy woman crossing' when shooting an eastbound in Cavendish Gulf on the old Green Mountain Railroad.
Anyway, this is about MP 100.4 on the New Hampshire Northcoast Railroad's mainline (former Boston and Maine Conway Branch) as the train approaches the Province Lake Road crossing. Train D7 is headed home to the Ossipee Aggregates pit with a string of empty sand hoppers trailing three EMD GP38-2s: NHN 3823 (blt. Sept. 1978 as CR 8242), leased FURX 5509 (blt. Mar. 1970 as high nosed straight GP38 SOU 2801) and NHN 3825 (blt. Sept. 1978 as CR 8244).

I was working on two of my photographic projects, then Carnival arrived, I put aside what I had done up until then, and so I created this group of photographs; they are shots taken during the Carnival which took place in Taormina center (Taormina alta) and in Trappitello (fraction of Taormina, the plain part of Taormina, located towards the hinterland; there is also Taormina seaside, but this part is not was affected by the Carnival). Carnival, from a photographic point of view, has always interested me not for its allegorical floats, not for its beautiful or refined masks, but for the people who find themselves "behind the masks", for their emotions, the their ability to have fun, to uninhibit themselves, even in front of the camera. I photographed a detail of the float dedicated to the mayor of Taormina, Cateno De Luca, I photographed boys and girls from the masked groups who paraded through the city streets, as well as boys and girls not belonging to any group, who had fun with clothes invented for the 'occasion; despite having placed heterogeneous photographs, I mostly followed a theme that refers to a work by Andy Warhol, an iconic figure of Pop Art as well as being one of the most important artists of the 20th century, ideally linking myself for its creation to the allegorical float of Pop Art of Taormina.
I conclude, I dedicate this work to the flicker-friend White Angel, hoping to please her.

……………….

CAMP HUMPHREYS – Soldiers and their families had the unique experience of running and eating at same event, Nov. 17, during the Camp Humphreys Chili Cook-off and 5K Fun Run.
The first part of the event was the fun run, which began in the Splish and Splash parking lot. Runners ran Perimeter Road for 2.5 kilometers and then turn around to begin the trek to the finish. Many children participated in the run. Overall, more than 100 Soldiers and family members participated, in spite of cold, misty weather.
“It is a unit event to build camaraderie and morale,” said Lonnie Herring, the Area III sports director. “We are looking forward to doing the same event next year and we will consider adding a children’s category to the run.”
Lieutenant Bryan Domlen, assigned to Company B, 532 Military Intelligence Battalion, took first place in Men’s Open. In Woman’s Open, Capt. Elizabeth Van Hoeiden, from 557th Military Police Company, took first place.
After the running was over, the Chili Cook-off took place. Eight teams participated in the competition, with their own style of chili. The judges tasted each different chili, from Chinese-style to spicy and full-flavored classic style. The judges then voted on the different categories.
Those in attendance were happy to taste many kind of chili’s in one place and they voted by their own preferences.
One of the 70 voters, Staff Sgt. Nealy Roper, assigned to Headquarters Support Company, 602nd Aviation Support Battalion, said “I like the chili with the sweet taste. It is mild and makes me want to eat more and more.”
“The event was great, I really enjoyed it,” said Kimberly Crosby, from Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade. “We brought our own chili and shared the taste and happiness with the people.” The best chili award went to Crosby too, and according to her, people chose her chili because “it has full of flavors.”
