i’m leaning into the complicated, raw, heartbreaking ways, as a white american, i’m enmeshed with the status quo. a status quo that allowed george floyd and thousands of others to die. five years ago, i began volunteering in prison, teaching meditation and mindfulness. it’s the most meaningful work i’ve done. i’m inspired by the stories of prisoners, raised in hell realms, yet making transformation and change.

i realize my work and my way of being has separated me (in my mind) from racism. racism is over there (not within me—look what i’m doing!), but if i dig deeper, i’m part of the system, not separate from it. as a white person, I’m part of the privileged majority. such turbulent times invite us to wake up. first the pandemic, then a brutally honest look into unrelenting racial injustice. i’m trying to lean in with my whole—tender, raw, loving—heart.

I went for a short drive in the country yesterday, it was pretty uneventful but I did come across these trees. They were lined up and leaning perfectly, I have no idea why; the back row leans toward the south and the short grouping in front are leaning eastward, no doubt the tree lines are wind and snow breaks for farming but can someone tell me why they are leaning.......

This dead tree at Warren Woods State Park in Michigan was leaning out over the Galien River..

Walking the back streets of Valencia, came across this precarious structure. Hopefully the big bad wolf doesn't blow it over.

...when you're not strong

And I'll be your friend

I'll help you carry on

For it won't be long

Till I'm gonna need

Somebody to lean on

So just call on me brother, when you need a hand

We all need somebody to lean on

I just might have a problem that you'd understand

We all need somebody to lean on

CP 9363 leads a hefty train into the curve between Nashua and Tenney on the Elbow Lakes Subdivision. I could see this train from miles away traveling north of Minnesota Highway 9 as it approached the diamond with the BNSF Morris Subdivision. Much to my surprise, the Red River Valley & Western was sitting at the junction waiting to follow this train west into North Dakota. Timing is everything.

At the end of May the meadows are very rich with ears of corn and flowers. Here the perspective of a fox stalking through the mat. In the sky a bird.

Effect is purely from taking the description of the Slider Sunday group seriously and pushing all ten of my basic sliders to the extreme. Five each way! The background of the original image was just pale blue-grey water in the lake.

Happy Slider Sunday!

Happy Monday Blues too!

The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own. No apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on, or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins. ~Bob Moawad~

Lean on Me

Bill Withers

[Chorus]

Lean on me when you're not strong

And I'll be your friend

I'll help you carry on

For it won't be long

'Til I'm gonna need

Somebody to lean on
