SP 7405 and company have a heavy manifest in tow as they climb towards Hiland on SPs Palmdale Cutoff. I always loved listening to these big EMDs muscle through the grade.
Bandon, Oregon sunset. As the tide ebbs, there are lots of opportunities to incorporate leading lines from the landscape.
It's August 11th 1993, and SD40-2s #8040 and #8400 bring a westbound over the summit of the Alleghenies at Sand Patch. While bemoaned by many, I don't think too many would complain today over a yellow-nose'd stealth SD40-2 leading a train to shoot. It's worth noting 8400 back there is former WM SD40 #7449. Leading Lines, take your choice...fence, road or wall. Another from my trip through the Langdales on a misty morning a couple of weeks ago. The tree up on the hill on the left is more usually shot facing the other direction. This is just along the start of the road to the Wrynose Pass.

When waves crash onto the rocks, there are a few pathways on the cliffs that lead to small waterfalls like these. The Paradise Park Cliffs has tons of cool spots to see. I love the look of the contrast between the water and the rocks.

After a very dry summer, it was surprising to see so many butterflies at the U.S. National Arboretum on November 8th.
With no other blooms around and with the sun fading in late afternoon, the butterflies and other pollinators concentrated their frenetic activity on this small chrysanthemum patch.
Leading the butterfly train is White M Hairstreak with a gash in the hindwing that reveals some of the brilliant iridescent blue on top of the wings (that's usually not seen). The other two are female Sachem, and male Fiery Skipper.
