UP YPR60B spots Alpha Baking, the last industry on the Cragin Industrial Lead. Although the lead is only used twice a week, there are significant portions of welded rail (including the old northbound main in the foreground), a legacy of when C&NW staged Oak Creek coal trains at 40th Street in the 1980s.

A wider take on this scene moments before sunset.
Having completed turning this welded rail train on the yard lead via CPF 197 and 196 this CSXT/Pan Am Rigby yard crew is headed back to the yard with the train as they catch the last glow of evening sun. It will be doubled to the rear of M426 and head to Waterville the next morning ultimately destined for the track project going on between Northern Maine Junction and Mattawamkeag as CSXT rebuilds the old Maine Central mainline they purchased last year.
The crew has a nice merger pair of geeps in the form of MEC 514 and CSXT 2548, the former of which is a GP40-2W blt. Apr. 1976 as CN 9655 and the latter a GP38-2 blt. Nov. 1973 as SCL 548 and delivered in black and yellow. They are on Main 1 of 1500 ft long double track bridge over the Fore River with the warehouses of Merrill's Marine Terminal (owned by New England based Sprague Energy since 2005), an important railroad customer, visible at center behind the train.

Psalm 4:1 “When I call out, answer me, O God who vindicates me! Though I am hemmed in, you will lead me into a wide, open place. Have mercy on me and respond to my prayer!”

While walking the Devils Postpile Upper Trail with a view looking to the southwest across the hexagonal patterns with its columnar basalt. My thinking in composing this image was to make more of a layered approach with the nearby overlook that then lead to a more distant mountainside. As the skies above were mainly overcast with forest fire haze, I worked the angle on my Nikon SLR camera to have the surrounding landscape filling most of the image while minimizing what I felt was a negative space with the skies above.

The Greatest Love Of All By: Whitney Houston
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
Everybody's searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfilled my needs
A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed at least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all inside of me
The greatest love of all is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all
I believe the children are our future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed at least I live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all inside of me
The greatest love of all is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself, it is the greatest love of all
And if by chance that special place
That you've been dreaming of
Leads you to a lonely place
Find your strength in love

A pair of SD40-2's head back to CN's Scotford Yard after lifting interchange traffic from CP. Shell Canada's Chemical plant and upgrader loom in the distance. If you look above the inflatable cow on the far left you will see a tan structure and stack, which is where I am employed. Not often do I get to combine work and play in a single shot.
I loved the leading lines on these dunes and was pleasantly surprised when it got dark and the Milky Way was so nicely positioned.
I managed to get this photo just before the clouds rolled in and the wind picked up.

Some people have asked me how I achieve these effects, such as above, on my iphone so I have created a website www.iphoneographycentral.com on which myself and many of the world's leading iphoneographers share our work flows via step-by-step tutorials. If you are interested in learning more about taking and editing photographs on your mobile phone using the many apps available, please visit www.iphoneographycentral.com.
