This is the soil profile from a creeping bentgrass tee. The soil shows a black layer throughout much of the profile. The black layer is caused by anaerobic (waterlogged) conditions. Notice that there is no black layer in the vertical strip in the center of the photo where an aerification tine has created more air space. In fact, new root growth can be observed in that area of increased air content.
In the main dump. Remains of a P-38 fighter plane were in the heap center left.
To those of you dreaming of recovering this aircraft or it's parts:
Note the date; this pic was taken decades ago. Google Earth shows no indication that there is anything at all remaining in the dump area:

Layer cake is a cake consisting of multiple layers, usually held together by frosting or another type of filling, such as jam or other preserves.
This week is the last Card Patterns sketch, #172, I am going to miss the sketches and it has been lots of fun being on the DT. For this card, I made two rosette flowers and stacked them on top of each other, finishing the top one off with Crackle Accent in the centre, and smearing some Rock Candy Stickles on both of them. I discovered that the large flower fit perfectly into the stamped circle from the new Road Trip stamp set from Tim Holtz. It is a car themed stamp, but I love the frame it gave to the flower. It was stamped on patterend paper with Victorian Velvet ink. I finished the layered circle elements off with a dry embossed and sanded kraft core scalloped circle.
The background was made by stamping the Fabric Design stamp with white paint. After it dried, I inked it with Victorian Velvet and Frayed Burlap, and misted heavily with Perfect Pearls and water. I stamped the sentiment with Archival Coffee, and a few dots with Frayed Burlap. TFL!

sunset over the rocks. shot on a 30 second exposure. forgot my led torch so had to use camera light to light the rocks .
This was actually done for my preschooler, but I probably should have used it with my older kids too. Each of the major divisions is a layer of the book. I also uploaded this to Homeschool Launch and it can be downloaded at: www.hslaunch.com/mypage/file/3809

Carn Liath Wild camp
In this spring and summer of rain and colder conditions , a few days opened up where a strong southerly air flow was providing us with a glimpse of what could be- a few days of temperatures over 16 degrees centigrade!!!
I suppose we cant have it all, after last years fabulous weather, we couldn’t possibly expect two years of good summery weather;)
With the forecast few days of good weather, I immediately started to think of a summit camp as I hadn’t done one since my camp in balmy conditions in February (in fact that weather spell had been more summery than most of the summer!!!). Having done numerous camps in Glencoe I decided I wanted something different and not too far away as time was short, so I decided on Carn Liath on the Beinn a’ Ghlo mountain range.
Leaving the car late into the afternoon I took a stroll up the short approach before starting the climb up Carn Liath. Path renovation work is currently being carried out to try and protect the mountain a little and I stopped for a while to chat to the workers putting this in place.
Further up the hill and the wind was whistling in from the south. It was certainly stronger than forecast I was a little apprehensive that it would be even stronger on the summit. However as I had been up here numerous time on day trips I was pretty sure I’d be able to find a sheltered spot somewhere close to the top.
Before long I was relieving my shoulders and dropping my rucksack at the summit cairn. The weather was good but the wind was still blowing so I set about looking for somewhere a little sheltered to pitch up. Luckily , just beyond the summit the lee of the slope gave me some shelter and I set camp.
With longer hours of day light I Ioitered around the summit taking photos and enjoying myself I was really hopeful for a nice sunset but around 8pm the cloud filled everything to grey rather appropriate for Carn Liath, the peak of the grey rock!
Disappointed at no glorious sunset, I retired to the tent, set the alarm for an hour before sunrise (early!) and caught a few hours sleep.
The disappointment of the prior evening was blown away (literally) the next morning as I was treated to a cracking sunrise The wind was still blowing but it was a warm wind so I was enjoying watch the skies turn from pink to orange and finally yellow and blue as the sun rose into the sky
A fabulous morning and I was on my way back to the car before 8am and home before 10am- a grand wee adventure and so glad I made the effort as the following months showed no signs of more summer weather!!

In 1667 Nicholas Corsellis bought the estate who gave it to his old headmaster, the Rev. William Drake. They lived here for 6 generations, until the tower was sold by Mathew Corsellis’ executors in 1835 to Quintin Dick, MP for Maldon.
The buildings suffered damage from the Great Earthquake of 1884 but they were restored. In 1901 stockbroker Walter de Zoete bought the house and modernisation it. It was then sold to Dr and Mrs Campbell who sold to the Charrington family, the current owners in 1959.
