Bank of America, Not With Our Money!
Funding dirty coal? Not with our money.
Activists hung a banner on Bank of America's Charlotte, NC headquarters to tell the bank: "Not with our money!" People are fed up with Bank of America putting profits before people and planet. The bank is the largest funder of the US coal industry and the leading foreclosure on Americans' homes. Meanwhile, BoA is laying off 30,000 workers and hiking fees left and right. Enough is enough.
As the morning started to slip away four other activists barricaded the main entrance door to BOA's corporate headquarters and held a banner that said "Bank of Coal"
This was all followed up by protest march to the corner of Tryon and Trade Street, where the Rainforest Action Network had several speakers speak before marching over to BOA
You too can tell Bank of America, "Not with our money!"

Sometimes you just don't feel like cooking. Sometimes you just need to abuse your arteries. Sometimes you regret it later.
Sometimes the guy behind you just needs to calm down, lay off the horn, and let you get your photo right.
On July 26th Labor Secretary Hilda Solis and Communications Workers of America (CWA) President Larry Cohen spoke to a very-well-attended "Bring Jobs Home" rally in San Francisco.
The event was organized by the California Labor Federation and the CWA. There was a very large crowd at Union Square, with a brass band warming up the crowd ("Solidarity forever, our union makes us strong!), and several enthusiastic speakers. The rally was one of many around the country, part of the AFL-CIO's Bring Jobs Home campaign.
In the past decade, more than 50,000 manufacturing sites closed and 6 million American manufacturing jobs were lost to offshoring. More than 500,000 call-center jobs have also been shipped out of the country! Our government actually gives tax breaks to companies that close factories here, lay off the workers, move the machines to other countries, then ship the same goods back here to sell in the same stores! That's called "trade." As a result there is pressure on wages, and people are afraid to speak up for themselves or organize unions for fear of losing their own jobs.

Pictures taken at the Deva Stadium during the Chester City v Darlington match in the Vanarama National League North.
Sigh. Sorry there are so few pictures but Darlo were crap and I got a bit angry.
The game finished n a 3-1 home win via debut hat trick for Akwasi Asante, who will never have an easier afternoon. This weas despite the Seals playing with 10 mne for nearly an hour
His first came on 27 minutes when he won the ball on the nearside touchline, laid it off and then charged into the Quakers' box where he got on the end of a pinpoint cross and powered a header beyond Maddison in the Darlo goal.
The second came on 49 minutes. Mahon, who ran tirelessly all afternoon, began the move after robbing a darlo defender before passing to the Dutchman who turned brilliantly leaving a defender in his wake and placing a lovely finish past on the onrushing Maddison.
Somehow Darlo managed to score on 56 minutes with Darlington's first real foray forward producing an unlikely goal as Josef Wheately picked up a lose ball 25 yards before placing a powerful shot past a stunned Grant Shenton.
However on on 69 minutes Dudley ran at the Darlo defence before laying off to Asante who cut inside and lashed a right foot curling shot beyond Maddison to complete his hat trick with the best of the lot
Want to know the best thing I took out of the day: The stadium is known to be on the border between England and Wales as the border runs along the rear of the east stand (the main stand). The address of the ground is officially classed as England, due to the main entrance of the building being in England

Today was my Grandma's birthday. She passed away almost 15 years ago. I loved her so much.
I had a horrid hangover from going hard on Friday night. I spent the morning and early afternoon lying around and making two-minute noodles for me, my dad and my cousin. I had to go to our other cousin's housewarming party in the late afternoon. It was dull as I knew it would be, and because I've been upset this week (I had a big fight/talk/agony aunt session with Ma earlier in the week, so there's been a bit of tiptoeing around and relaxing of some rules) I was allowed to leave early and go to dinner with my friend. She hasn't been having a good year either, so dinner turned into dinner followed by shots of tequila and Sambuca and lots of venting from both of us. Messy. We had a fun night, but we're both just sick of our city and our situations. She's looking at moving up north next year, and I'm hoping to buy my own place late next year (but more likely 2010). Anyway I think I need to lay off the alcohol for a while. My brain hurts after so much drinking lately.
I wore this sheer shirt with embroidery on it. I've had it for more than two years but hadn't actually worn it before. I bought it in Singapore's Topshop store.

It's been a cold, crisp and sunny day today, perfect for photography. Unfortunately, I missed it all as I was stuck inside at work *sulks*.
However, I was determined not to be beaten in my quest for an outdoor blip, so I dashed out of work and drove straight to Afetside village which is nice and high up to try and get a glimpse of the sun setting. And I got greeted with this! Bingo!
I also got blown about by a freezing wind and mud all over my boots.
I had the pleasure of making a Harry Potter from sugar paste for the top of H's cake for tomorrow when I got home. It's not bad, but he looks like he definitely needs to lay off the Hogwart's feasts as he's looking rather...shall we say... rotund.
Wish me luck for the party tomorrow...

once i was tripping with a good friend in toronto, and we were sitting
on a bench when an earthquake hit...first, we just
thought it was the acid, but then we realized the ground really was
moving when stuff started falling down. we ran into the subway, and stood
there for about 20 minutes, before we realized we were being stupid.
then we sat and wrote about our experiences:
Back where we started in the feral quake ridden air. My neck and jaw are
very tense and my eyes are watery and i'm awake and yet another large
part of me longs for sleep. Another part of me longs for food.Lots of food. FOOD NOW!
I keep waiting for something and it's not going to happen so why can't i
just go to sleep?
My lip is so rubbery. MnhMy lhlhnlip bhbhis shslssoooooo phlrubbery.
I am a sticker
I am forgotten
I feel smoke from earlier this evening burning in my lungs...it's
choking me I have to swallow a lot to keep it away.
The lines in the subway are glowing weirdly. I'm going lean against the post now.
Burrell Colour Imaging (BCI) is a leading full service lab for professional portrait and wedding photographers, processing both digital and traditional images. The company was founded in 1959 by photographer and current BCI CEO Don Burrell to provide color and black and white traditional processing and printing to Chicago and North West Indiana photographers and over the decades has grown to serve over fifteen thousand photographers nationwide.
Since Burrell Colour's first lab, DNJ opened in Gary, Indiana, Burrell has been praised for consistently offering photographers friendly and efficient customer service and a guarantee of quality with quick turn around times. Burrell's "no lay off" policy has resulted in cultivating a seasoned team of highly trained lab technicians, production and customer service departments. The Burrell Marketing Sales Representatives (MSR) provide sales and marketing help cross country to photographers on an individual basis, acting as business consultants and offering market analysis and solutions.
On Thursday May 30th, Sun-Times Media laid off 28 people including photo editors and the professional journalism staff. Included were well known names like Al Podgorski, Scott Stewart, Ernie Torres, Tom Cruze and John H. White who had been with the paper for thirty-five years and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1982.
The Times, which is owned by Wrapports L.L.C., an investment company, said that the action resulted from a need to shift to video work and because people were relying more
on mobile devices to stay informed. Also planned was to have reporters use IPhones to take pictures and hire freelance photographers to do the rest.
The laid-off photographers are members of the Chicago Newspaper Guild which was in the process of negotiating a new contract with the paper. The company had recently told the union that no lay-offs of photographers were planned. The Guild planned to take legal action to restore the jobs.

After the ‘90s, there were about 45,000 coal miners working in the Jiu Valley. That is no longer the case today. As it is no longer profitable to extract coal, the European Commission recently proposed to closed most of them down and lay off the miners.
The remaining “lucky” 8,700 miners who made it through this restructuring exercise, continue to go 2,000 meters underground every day, working with rudimentary equipment and puting their lifes in danger.
The ones that were not so “lucky” continue to be un-employed, with limited chances of finding employment elsewhere...
The rusty entry of the old business, is wearing with stained letters a caste wishes “Good Luck”. 862 people read it at Petrila mine coal every day.
In the cage - so tell the elevator - a group is already formed. An iron box with two metal walls and floor crooked, leads people into the deep. They began to come to mine at 4.30 a.m, before dawn. The first turn is at 6.00 a.m. They gathered first at the table. Languages are freed quickly, without censorship. Who to beware? Then go to change. No one enters underground without special dark blue equipment. And without making timesheet. A brand of aluminum, which is scratched a number - their new identity while their are undergroung-, an entry in the register the lamp and auto save mask. Now, everyone knows who is and who works in the mining sector. In case something happens ...
Technically, my dentist took this picture and I just took a picture of it to remind myself that I need to lay off the Dr. Pepper.

All Hallows Church, also known as The Brick Church, is an historic church located at 3604 Solomon's Island Road, in Edgewater, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, United States. It is a low, rectangular Flemish bond brick structure with a hip roof. The building was constructed about 1710 as the parish church of All Hallows' or South River Parish, now called All Hallows Parish, South River. The interior was gutted by fire in 1727. After modernizations in 1825 and 1885, a 1940 reconstruction restored it to its 1710 appearance. The ancient cemetery, shaded by a grove of oak trees, surrounds the church. The bell in the rustic tower bears the date 1727. The parish records date back to 1682, indicating that it existed prior to the Act of Establishment (1692) passed by the General Assembly of Maryland laying off the Province into 30 Anglican parishes.

On the Isle of Wight UK, we have a Danish wind turbine manufacturer called Vestas that employes 600 people. In the next few weeks they plan to shut the factory down and move out of our country. The Isle of Wight has a population of only 125,000 and already we are very badly hit by unemployment thank to our friends the bankers. Where are these 600 going to find a job to feed their families. What will happen to our Island as there are other companies here that supply Vestas, so that will mean more jobs to go. As usual it's the hard working and loyal that suffer.

This is my first, and so far only, Gene doll repaint. She's a Simply Gene Red head put on a straight-leg Gene body. I won her in a raffle and I have no idea what Gene doll the body originally belonged to. :^[
There's a lot of problems with the repaint--I really had no idea what I was doing and used cheap, cruddy craft paints that weren't thinned down (hence why her eyes are all blobby and uneven). I didn't remove all of her original paint either, just the eyeshadow. I went over her eyebrows and lips with my new paint, and covered over her eyes so they were looking forward (and be brown, instead of Gene's spooky blue). One eye came out bigger than the other, though, and the reflection shines aren't coming from the same direction. She looks craaaaaaaaaaaaaazy. And get this! I didn't remove her eyelashes! I just trimmed them down and painted over the glued nubs that were left! Auuuuuuuuuuuugh what a mess. I want to remove all her paint and re-do this someday, with higher quality supplies--and I should do it soon, because the red paint on her lips is already beginning to leach into the plastic and stain. D^: It's a shame, because despite her faults, she really is lovely. I used Prismacolor colored pencils for her eyeshadow and blush, which was the smartest thing I did in the entire project. They've held up just fine, and haven't stained anything.
She's wearing a dress I knitted. I had named her Rachel, but since I have three friends and a cousin named Rachel, I'm not so keen on the name now. :^P (I am tremendously fickle and change the names of my toys whenever I feel like it.) I'm thinking of changing her name to Rowan.

Gubbacci is a family run business started in Bengaluru, India in 2015. Gubbacci's core strength is customized apparel including Custom T-Shirts, Hoodies, Caps, School Uniforms, Corporate Uniforms and Suits. As COVID became a pandemic, our sales plummeted. We did not want to lay off any of our 16 employees and wanted to support our suppliers. Given the circumstances, we started making reusable 100% Cotton Face Masks and people started loving them for their safety, functionality and comfort. We always source highest quality materials ethically and pay a fair price for everyone involved in the process.

East Coast Provinces appear to be the target of severe local live Newstime cancellations and these cut-backs have left many Maritimers without their daily Noon news hour updates that are broadcast everyday all week long ? ATV viewers will now be forced to tune into the other station (CBC) where CBC tends to run mostly world international news along with their select choice of the National News, along with lengthy live news conferences that are put on by the PM and other liberal party members ?
Aside from terminating the popular weekday ATV Noon hour news show, CTV has also downsized in half the very popular and iconic , 'ATV live at five' 5 P.M. local community news program, (prompting long time popular host Jason Baxter to seek early retirement) ? Adding to the devistating loss of this much needed news reporting that is traditionally broadcast every week, Bell will also now terminate all weekend Saturday and Sunday local news reporting currently running on ATV ? The cancellation and elimination of so much allotted local news airtime that is normally given to Atlantic Canadians surely threatens the safety and security of residents especially now that there will be a 24 hour local news blackout for 2 full days each and every weekend and even for as much as 3 consecutive days every holiday long weekend ? And so it seems that arch rival CBC has taken over prime time live local news reporting in the Maritimes and Bell Canada is blaming the Liberal Government's new Bill C-18 for them having to slash so many prime time hours of local and Provincial news coverage in the Maritimes ?

Is this a CBC Stanley Cup cruel joke ? June 2nd, 2024 Edmonton ? Fans are upset after CBC had broadcast the first 5 games of the Men's NHL Dallas vs Oilers series, and then, without warning and for no logical reason, CBC blacked out the critical and most important climactic final game that saw Edmonton win and gain entry into the Stanley Cup finals ? It remains unclear why CBC would do this ? Was it arrogance, or was it to be mean spirited, or was it a gender bias issue due to this being Men's pro hockey, or was it maybe a lesson given out to remind Canadians just who is running this Countries main media and who controls the programming ? v=iW0yzPhwC4s" rel="noreferrer nofollow">www.youtube.com/watch?v=iW0yzPhwC4s
