I met with Centro Romero Executive Director Daysi Funes outside of their offices in Chicago They have posted a message about the budget on their window because they had to close their Family Service Program and lay off four staffers because the immigrant services line item has no funds. And things only continue to get worse while Governor Bruce Rauner holds the budget hostage.

The Marion Courthouse Square Historic District clearly reflects the evolution and development of the city of Marion, the downtown commercial district, Marion Female Seminary, and the Centreville Street residential neighborhood. The courthouse square has, since its creation, been the heart of business and commercial life in Marion . Too, since its founding in the early 19th century, Marion has been recognized for it's citizens' commitment to education and religious institutions. The district contains the Marion Female Seminary (NRHP, 10/4/73) and three historic religious structures.
Founded on March 4, 1822, the city of Marion was originally known as Muckle's Ridge. By 1817, Michael Muckle had cleared an acre of land from a dense forest and constructed a cabin on the present site of the Perry County Jail (structure #79). Muckle later sold his improvements to Anderson West, then sheriff of Perry County. At the suggestion of Joseph Evans, a South Carolinian, the county commissioners, charged with finding a suitable location for the county seat of Perry County, changed the name of the town from Muckle's Ridge to Marion, honoring General Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of Revolutionary War fame. After laying off the courthouse square and the surveying of streets, on May 22,1822, lots were sold at public auction but due to heavy rains, prices for prime lots remained quite low. The early sale of lots included those adjacent to the courthouse square. (1)

Thomas Watson (Shipping) was a prominent barge owning company in Rochester, Kent. Brothers David J Bradley and Stanley Bradley joined the company as partners. Thomas Watson (Shipping) named their vessels prefaced by "Lady". David J Bradley commissioned her in 1921. She was built by Short Bros, who later went on to construct flying boats such as the Short Sunderland. She was one of the last sailing barges to be built from wood, but was built from a plan, (from lines) rather than laying off a half hull model. Lady Daphne was launched in 1923, and David named it after his new-born daughter, Daphne.
After a lengthy lay-off at Volvo Washington, Olympian 7364 has returned to service at Darlington depot with a new engine and a fresh coat of paint, pictured looking very smart in the corner of the depot yard.
So I ordered the Thrustmaster Glow Saber Duo Pack (I kid you not, that is really what it is called), as part of a Christmas present to play w/ Henry’s Star Wars Clone Wars Light Saber Duels. Figured it would be really fun to have light saber fights w/ faux-light sabers.
On Christmas day, we learned that though the buttons work, the Wii doesn’t register the swing motions. The game is all about swinging, so if the controllers are plugged into the sabers, all you can do is run around, jump, & glow w/ the force. Don’t recommend for your Wii system.
On the other hand, they make great props for long exposure portraits.

I dont know why it bit the dust, there are many reasons it could be, what I am certain of is that we have had our share of industries pick up and move. The blame certainly doesn't go to the present administration for this one, this is just one of many.
Its not a matter of community any more, it is not a matter of us working to make things better for our city or our community. It is a matter of how much you can get, no matter the cost and who cares along the way.
I like the buildings though..

I am a model railroader as well as amateur photographer. In the last year I have been collecting certain models and having decals made for companies my Dad drover for in the 70's and 80's during a long lay off period for him. This here is a Norscot Peterbilt 389 tractor decorated for Trans Canada a company my Dad drove for. I am currently working on the exact tractor he drove for them.I had decals for the tractors and trailers custom made.
Trying to lay off knitting for a few days, but this cable had to be tested, I was up nights thinking about it. sigh. It's halfway done, and is a version of what will be on the knitted jumper dress in the pipeline. I had a small gauge Shroom brim on the needles, so this got the eccentric cable treatment. It needs to breathe more {more plain rows between turns}, this is a little tortured.

I wouldn't normally travel spur of the moment to see someone live, but combine a rough time at work, my 39th birthday, possibly lay offs, Toby Keith, Trace Adkins and a first time to a city I'd love to see... it created an opportunity. I heard of the show on my birthday, but knew it was crazy for me to travel to Nashville to see Toby Keith. What would people think? As things got crazier at work and I became more in a rut, I decided... you must take every opportunity as it presents itself. 2 days before I went to Nashville, I purchased tickets to the show and plane tickets. It was by far one of my most memorable weekends and a fabulous time.
