I did a shoot with In Passing quite a while back and they ended up using one of the images for their promotional posters. I was doing some different color schemes as far as editing goes for them and they loved this edit. Looking back the colors are far too crazy for me and if you look at my more recent work you will see that I have really layed off on my editing...

Anyway, make sure you go check them out at www.myspace.com/inpassing because they are an amazing band!

On Thursday May 30th, Sun-Times Media laid off 28 people including photo editors and the professional journalism staff. Included were well known names like Al Podgorski, Scott Stewart, Ernie Torres, Tom Cruze and John H. White who had been with the paper for thirty-five years and won a Pulitzer Prize in 1982.

The Times, which is owned by Wrapports L.L.C., an investment company, said that the action resulted from a need to shift to video work and because people were relying more

on mobile devices to stay informed. Also planned was to have reporters use IPhones to take pictures and hire freelance photographers to do the rest.

The laid-off photographers are members of the Chicago Newspaper Guild which was in the process of negotiating a new contract with the paper. The company had recently told the union that no lay-offs of photographers were planned. The Guild planned to take legal action to restore the jobs.

We were on our way to the Robb Cemetery (a pretty Byzantine journey in itself) across a network of unpaved rural roads near Lexington. I was pretty sure I was going the wrong way when I noticed these white covered wagon signs--and was absolutely gobsmacked to discover that I had arrived at the original site of my great-great-great grandparents' house/trading post, the Freeman Store in Plum Creek. I didn't know it was there, hadn't set out to find it--it just happened. Bizarre and wonderful. You can google "Platte Valley Historical Trail" all day long and you'll never find a reference to these markers, which are all over this stretch of road and mark several other important sites, including the second and third Freeman Stores, the site of the Plum Creek Massacre, the original Pony Express trail and lots more. So here I am, literally walking in the footsteps of my ancestors. They must have led me there somehow.

Taj-ul-Masajid (Bhopal भोपाल (The City of Lakes)) (edit info)

The mosque has a pink facade that is topped by two 18 storey high octagonal minarets with marble domes. The mosque also has three huge bulbous domes, an impressive main hallway with attractive pillars and marble flooring. It has a courtyard with a large tank in the centre. It has a double storeyed gateway with four recessed archways and nine cusped multifold openings in the main prayer hall. The Quibla wall in the prayer hall is carved with eleven recessed arches and has fine screens of trellis work. The massive pillars in the hall create 27 ceilings through squinted arches of which 16 ceilings are decorated with ornate petalled designs.

The most impressive structure in Bhopal is the Taj-ul-Masjid, one of the largest and most elegant Muslim mosques in India.

Taj-ul-Masjid literally translates as ‘The Crown of Mosques’, and the construction of the monument was characterised by sporadic bursts of activity alternating with spans of inactivity during the reigns of successive Begums.

However, the monument was never completed due to lack of money, and after a long lay-off, construction was resumed in 1971.

The building really presents a spectacular sight and is worth taking a bow to. It’s pink façade is topped by two huge white-domed minarets pointing upwards to the heavens, as if seeking its blessings.

The mosque also has three huge bulbous domes, an impressive main hallway with attractive pillars, marble flooring and a spacious courtyard. Must a visit site.

The mosque is one of the most important Muslim landmarks in the city of Bhopal, and is multi-purpose as it is used as a madarsa, a Islamic religious school during the day.

Llandrindod Wells is an amalgam of two very different settlements. Early Llandrindod in the

form of the old parish church and Llandrindod Hall occupies a spur sandwiched between

valleys that drop down towards the Ithon from the high ground to the east. One kilometre to

the north-west on lower ground which has been ridged and hollowed by several streams is the

Victorian and modern creation of Llandrindod Wells.

This brief report examines Llandrindod’s emergence and development up to 1750. For the

more recent history of the settlement, it will be necessary to look at other sources of

information and particularly at the origins and nature of the buildings within it.

The accompanying map is offered as an indicative guide to the historic settlement. The

continuous line defining the historic core offers a visual interpretation of the area within

which the settlement developed, based on our interpretation of the evidence currently to hand.

It is not an immutable boundary line, and may need to be modified as new discoveries are

made. The map does not show those areas or buildings that are statutorily designated, nor

does it pick out those sites or features that are specifically mentioned in the text.

We have not referenced the sources that have been examined to produce this report, but that

information will be available in the Historic Environment Record (HER) maintained by the

Clwyd-Powys Archaeological Trust. Numbers in brackets are primary record numbers used in

the HER to provide information that is specific to individual sites and features. These can be

accessed on-line through the Archwilio website (www.archwilio.org.uk).

History of development

The name refers to the 'Church of the Trinity', but the former name of the church and its

parish was Llandow in 1283 and Lando in 1291 meaning ‘church of God’. Llandynddod

appears only in 1535, but the change to the Trinity is one that can be recognised in several

other churches in Wales.

The earlier focus occupies a spur overlooking this area. Whether the church represents an

early medieval foundation is unclear. The 'llan' prefix might suggest this but there is no

corroborative evidence. Its later history, too, is uncharted. The occurrence of platforms

opposite the church hints at more than just an isolated church, but the evidence as yet is not

compelling.

Llandrindod Hall by the old church was converted into a large hotel in about 1749, but it

functioned for less than forty years and was demolished by its proprietor, reportedly because

of its unsavoury clientele. It was replaced in the 19th century by a farmstead.

Reportedly the origins of the spa town go back to the late 17th century. Cae-bach Chapel

(30000; Grade II listing) in Brookland Road was founded in 1715. Saline and sulphur springs

were discovered in the 1730s and these were noted in various publications in the following

twenty years. But the emergence of Llandrindod Wells is essentially a 19th-century

phenomenon and thus falls outside the scope of this report, although in expanding over

Llanerch Common, the town enveloped the Llanerch Inn, which has some 17th-century

features.

The heritage to 1750

The old parish church of Holy Trinity (16027) lies more than 1km south-east of the town and

was sited on the edge of an extensive tract of common upland. It originally had a single

chamber of 13th/14th-century build with a south porch and small west spire. It was completely

rebuilt in 1894, after the archdeacon of Llandrindod had removed the roof in order to

'encourage' townspeople to attend the new church in the town. The old church houses several

18th and 19th-century monuments but its 'sheel-na-gig' (5960) uncovered during building work

in 1894 and presumably of medieval origin, is now in the local museum.

The churchyard (16199) is irregular in design, its shape on the west and south dictated by the

natural topography. The Tithe map depicts a smaller enclosure around the church, a short

distance away from the road and no longer distinguishable at ground level, but may not be an

accurate representation. A holy well (81710) lay close to the churchyard, though the story

attached to it point to a healing well.

The spur on which the old church sits is naturally irregular with rock outcrops protruding.

North of the church on land that was common until the 19th century are several flat terraces

some of which are certainly artificial constructions that probably supported dwellings

(16094); there is at least one authentic platform and perhaps two others, together with

enclosure boundaries and a trackway. Further earthworks (16095), the most obvious a low

curvilinear bank of unknown function, are apparent just to the south-east of Llandrindod Hall

(30020).

Capel Maelog (2055) which was excavated between 1984 and 1987 lay off Cefnllys Lane less

than 1km east of the town centre. Its foundations have now been reconstructed near County

Hall.

I hiked the Yellowwood Lake loop in the Yellowwood State Forrest. Southern Indiana is quite hilly, and it was very hot. This 5 mile trail was a serious challenge for my “out of shape” ass. I really need to lay off the cheeseburgers. :-) I managed to get a few shots along the way.

This is a poster I designed for the Winter Sounds Winter Tour. Two bands with wintery sounding names lend themselves very easily to a wintery themed poster. This one would have been fun to print, but, they needed quite a few more prints than my feeble arms could manage. Someday I'll lay off the sweet tea and start body building.

Song of the day: Elvis Presley - Blue Suede Shoes

Well, its one for the money,

Two for the show,

Three to get ready,

Now go, cat, go.

But dont you step on my blue suede shoes.

You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Well, you can knock me down,

Step in my face,

Slander my name

All over the place.

Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,

Honey, lay off of my shoes

Dont you step on my blue suede shoes.

You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

You can burn my house,

Steal my car,

Drink my liquor

From an old fruitjar.

Do anything that you want to do, but uh-uh,

Honey, lay off of my shoes

Dont you step on my blue suede shoes.

You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Here we see a victim of SDS (Sandstone Deprivation Syndrome) getting a fix of Moabian sandstone in Arches National Park (near Moab, Utah). This scene was recorded on a plateau next to and above Park Avenue.

Moab is known for its beautiful landscapes, but is also known for producing sandstone addiction in weak-minded individuals. Moabian sandstone is the most addictive rock in the world because it has a very high psychoramic quotient (explained at the album level).

Persons enamored of the bizarre fins and gorgeous canyons can easily get high there. However, the downside is that they need repeated doses of sandstone to stay calm. Thus the need to return again and again to satisfy their cravings.

The National Park Service in no way condones any form of addiction, but in the interest of maintaining public order it does tolerate the pictured behavior, as long as the repulsive activity is done out of sight of tourists. An SDS victim who does not get a sufficient fix in a timely manner is not just an annoyance to Park Service staff people, but also a public nuisance. Public nuisances depress park visitation rates, which in turn leads to staff lay-offs, an increase in litter, and the decline of Western Civilization.

This NPS policy of benign tolerance takes work, which takes money, which is hard to come by these days. Therefore the NPS charges an extra "maintenance" fee to such victims when they enter a park (the victims are easily identified by their nervous, bewildered behavior). The.proceeds are used to provide "calming quarters" on-site for those victims who do not properly satisfy their sandstone cravings.

My photographic assistant, Joe Tripod, played a role in the creation of this photo.

Sometimes you've just got to lay off the cake, man. *shakes head* I chose this picture for a few reasons - 1. i've been so caught up with selection stuff that i haven't been taking many pics lately 2. Little Riley looks as spent as i feel now that i've finished my selection criteria, and 3. We're off to play Aunty Jen & Uncle Ben this weekend with the future in-laws :-) So i plan to take a life lesson from bert & ernie, and just stare vacantly into space until its time to get ready to go to the train ... that, and drink coffee & read my who-vian comic book ...

Bell media, is a proud Canadian Company ? It's Super Bowl LVIII in Las Vegas Nevada USA. Prior to the big game CTV has been flooding North American airways with ads to promote their full coverage of the upcoming American Superbowl and they will then broadcast 10 straight hours of uninterrupted prime time live T.V. coverage of this prime American sporting event on Superbowl Sunday 2024 ? However, on the other hand, back home in their home country of Canada, they don't broadcast anything at all, nothing (zero) blanco, zilch, silencio, not even 1 minute of CTV coverage of their own 2024 Canadian Grey Cup game for their fellow Canadians to enjoy ? www.flickr.com/photos/74039487@N02/53523500175/in/datepos...

Feb 2024 - Halifax Nova Scotia,

Bell media and CTV have deafened and blindfolded many East Coast residents after eliminating many critical hours of local and community news programming in the Atlantic region ?

Recent Bell Canada Corporate decisions have now left many Maritimers in a vulnerable position ? East Coast Provinces appear to be the target of severe local live Newstime cancellations and these cut-backs have left many Maritimers without their daily Noon news hour updates that are broadcast everyday all week long ? ATV viewers will now be forced to tune into the other station (CBC) where CBC tends to run mostly world international news along with their select choice of the National News, along with lengthy live news conferences that are put on by the PM and other liberal party members ?

Aside from terminating the popular weekday ATV Noon hour news show, CTV has also downsized in half the very popular and iconic , 'ATV live at five' 5 P.M. local community news program, (prompting long time popular host Jason Baxter to seek early retirement) ? Adding to the devistating loss of this much needed news reporting that is traditionally broadcast every week, Bell will also now terminate all weekend Saturday and Sunday local news reporting currently running on ATV ? The cancellation and elimination of so much allotted local news airtime that is normally given to Atlantic Canadians surely threatens the safety and security of residents especially now that there will be a 24 hour local news blackout for 2 full days each and every weekend and even for as much as 3 consecutive days every holiday long weekend ? And so it seems that arch rival CBC has taken over prime time live local news reporting in the Maritimes and Bell Canada is blaming the Liberal Government's new Bill C-18 for them having to slash so many prime time hours of local and Provincial news coverage in the Maritimes ?

Bank of America, Not With Our Money!

Funding dirty coal? Not with our money.

Activists hung a banner on Bank of America's Charlotte, NC headquarters to tell the bank: "Not with our money!" People are fed up with Bank of America putting profits before people and planet. The bank is the largest funder of the US coal industry and the leading foreclosure on Americans' homes. Meanwhile, BoA is laying off 30,000 workers and hiking fees left and right. Enough is enough.

As the morning started to slip away four other activists barricaded the main entrance door to BOA's corporate headquarters and held a banner that said "Bank of Coal"

This was all followed up by protest march to the corner of Tryon and Trade Street, where the Rainforest Action Network had several speakers speak before marching over to BOA

You too can tell Bank of America, "Not with our money!"

I spent my day off last week (Cesar Chavez Day) surfing the Internet and reading. :)

hey man, it is kinda easy to save money if you dont have to burn through it on bills. fortunatley i know how to save and that is the only way that i am staying afloat right now. after getting layed off 2 months ago i am depending on my savings to keep my head above water. well for starters, take your lunch and snacks to work with you. get you a good sized lunch bag and pack you a luch. instead of getting the coca cola brand or pepsi brand drinks get store brand drinks get a big variety pack of tater chips. make you a sandwich or something and take it all with you. when i was working i figured it up and when i started doing this i saved my self about 100 dollars a month. now the key is to set a goal for your self. everyone needs atleast 3 months of savings. that covers all your bills. figure up how much you need to survive for 3 months. rent, electic, water, insurance what ever. and you also need an entertainment fund. figure out how much you need to survive (not have a blast) survive from week to week. take what you have left and put 75 percent into your savings and the other 25 perent in your entertainment fund. the trick is to only use what is in the entertainment fund for entertainment. dont dip into the emergency fund to have fun off of. just make a goal and stick to the goal. oh yea, before you start putting away for your emergency fun gather all your bills, ones that are not like electric rent, gather any out standing medical bills, car payment, what every and take what you would put into your emergency fun and knock out these bills. you knock out those bills and then start saving. if you do this (and lord forbid you loose your job) all these little bills will be payed off and you will have 3 months of savings that you can depend on and still have a little in your entertainment fund if you need it. man i know that i rambled on and on but trust me right now now one can afford to throw away money (well some can) save every penny that you can put it away for your future. right now i am living off my savings and it is running to a quick end and i hope that i have a job before then but if i didnt have these savings i probably would not still have a roof over my head or food on the table for my family. good luck with your savings. It is never easy to save money, for one, you have to be smart and try not to spend more then you earn, so with that being said, it is not an easy thing to do, to control your spending before earning the cash and as soon as it comes in you have to save it and keep saving it and not buy expensive things every day of your life

This walkway was built around 1993-94 when this site was IBM Kingston NY but in 1995 IBM pulled out and about 7000 jobs also moved most relocated but many where layed off this site is now called tech city, some new jobs moved in but not as much as hoped for...I work in one of the old buildings on this site

SB Lady Daphne & Tower bridge

Thomas Watson (Shipping) was a prominent barge owning company in Rochester, Kent. Brothers David J Bradley and Stanley Bradley joined the company as partners. Thomas Watson (Shipping) named their vessels prefaced by "Lady". David J Bradley commissioned her in 1921. She was built by Short Bros, who later went on to construct flying boats such as the Short Sunderland. She was one of the last sailing barges to be built from wood, but was built from a plan, (from lines) rather than laying off a half hull model. Lady Daphne was launched in 1923, and David named it after his new-born daughter, Daphne.

Snow White truly is the Fairest One of All. This doll for my collection arrived the other day, and she is truly breathtaking (the other doll I had posted pictures of is for a friend overseas, as at least initially Saks Fifth Avenue stated that they could not ship these overseas). I also received in the mail today a Thank You card from the lady that I had made my order with over the phone along with the actual register receipt.

Though Snow White is my favorite princess, I do hope that Disney lays off making any more limited edition dolls for her for a while. Five 17" LE dolls in a little over a year's time is super-excessive!

"Well, it's one for the money two for the show

Three to get ready now go, cat, go

But don't you put down my blue suede SUIT

Well you can do anything but

Lay off of my blue suede SUIT"

I've stepped a bit out of the image timeframe (1976) for this song but the tempatation to use it with this photo was just too great to pass up.

Here I am in the old Hacker Oldsmobile-Cadillac showroom at 2101 5th Avenue in Moline IL. No, it's not suede leather but brushed cotton and just as much of a fashion fail as you might imagine it to be). And blue socks too!

This shot was made for an annual customer Xmas card mailing. Now, you should understand that customer followup in Seventies car-selling business was pretty unusual. Most old school car salesmen lived from one sale to the next and never looked back. These days the dealerships understand that having an ongoing relationship with their customers is key to owner retention and a lot of effort and expense is spent on that.

I learned to appreciate what customer retention could mean from the dealership's senior saleman, John Carvey. Over the years John developed a loyal following of Cadillac buyers who came back to him repeatedly. He'd been working at Hacker long enough to outlast most other salesmen and by the time I joined the business he rarely took an 'Up' or, walk-in prospective customer. He make his living almost exclusively on repeat business.

Well, I was impressed and John took to tutoring me with the idea that I might inherit his customer base when he retired. While I didn't know it at the time he would end up retiring just a year later.

I've kept an artifact from those days. A small contact planner in which I'd note my customer's name, address, phone number and such along with what car they bought and certain particuars abount the sale. This was in 1976. Ten years later I'd purchased my first PC (an IBM 8088 model - dual floppies!) and taught myself how to program a database. I entered all my own customers into it as well as all the dealership's customers to make prospecting as easy as just a few keystrokes.

At that time the dealers had no idea of the value of their data but they did support me by covering the costs of my mailings. In time I left sales and worked the service department. Computing continued to be of interest and I would soon discover the Internet, usenet newsgroups and email. That would lead me to a second twenty-year career in the Internet.

Follow him down the Rabbit Hole...

Why in hell would you pay for a big crane to fix a few slates while leaving the damaged aerial right beside you unfix. How to waste money during financial collapse and job lay offs.

I met Elija on 11th and State Street while on my way to the St Ben's meal program. He is an experienced iron worker who was layed off only to find himself experiencing homelessness just a few months later. Through it all and his strong faith he remains upbeat that things will get better and that this is just a small chapter in his life

Hinchliffe Stadium in Paterson NJ was built during the Great Depression with grants from the federal government. A large portion of the labor came from layed off mill workers in Paterson NJ.

That federal investment in a construction project gave Paterson a 10,000 seat stadium that was used through the mid-1990s. Now in need a major renovations voters approved a ballot measure in 2009 to restore this historic structure.
