A wet & soggy Laughing Kookaburra. It is not all sunshine downunder!!

Taken in Florida.

As always, thank you so much for stopping by and for leaving any comments or faves, they are very much appreciated.

I am happy and concerned for these birds currently; happy as with the amount of rats and mice about that they'll have plenty to eat but concerned by the possibility of them eating rats and mice that have consumed poison put out to kill them.

Thanks for the visits, faves and comments its greatly appreciated.

Kirkjufell (Icelandic for "Church mountain") is a 463m high mountain on the north coast of Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula, near the town of Grundarfjörður. Together with its nearby waterfall, Kirkjufellsfoss, it makes a decent image, don't you agree?

Laughing Kookaburra

≠================≠

For all you Kookaburra fans out there.

"The Laughing Kookaburra is not really laughing when it makes its familiar call. The cackle of the Laughing Kookaburra is actually a territorial call to warn other birds to stay away. The chuckling voice that gives this species its name is a common and familiar sound throughout the bird's range."

This link gives some recordings of this very unique sound.

…. take three years to reach adult plumage. Immature birds are always darker than most similar-sized gulls….😎😎

Belvide Reservoir, Staffordshire. North American species of gull, a few make it to Europe each year. Bird was mobile around the reservoir, and usually quite distant but eventually made it to the SE corner where it was quite close in. Lifer for me.

First time this guy saw an iguana walking around the outdoor restaurant. He even dropped his napkin and knife.😆

This mushroom was growing inside a large hollow cedar log. To photograph the gills, a mirror was place under it and the photo taken in the mirror. See first comment for photo of the group of mushrooms.

…the laughing gull is the most dependable ally of the inshore fisher due to the fact that it prefers to steal rather than work…😎😎

I learnt a new thing about Black-Headed Gulls today! The species-specific part of their scientific name (Chroicocephalus ‘ridibundus’) means ‘laughing ‘ and comes from their ‘ke-ke-ke’ and ‘kverarrr’ calls. In view of this, the Black-Headed Gull is referred to as the ‘laughing’ gull in other languages, such as German.
