Plaza del Pilar in Zaragoza (Spain) is the largest pedestrian square in Europe and is a Marian pilgrimage site and a gathering place for residents and visitors alike. Looking over the plaza is a sculptural monument dedicated to Francisco de Goya, the city’s most famous painter. The whole monument consists of a simple cylindricalcenotaph of the painter himself with stone tablets alluding to both him and his daughter-in-law's family.

On the western side, you’ll find the Fountain of Hispanidad. This consists of a ramp with water flowing down it and a pond, which together, from above, take the shape of Latin America. A further three marble blocks represent Columbus’ ships.

As well as the Basílica del Pilar, there are other buildings which embellish and enhance this wonderful plaza. These include the Cathedral of El Salvador , La Seo which rises up on the eastern side of the plaza, The Lonja de Mercaderes , a Renaissance-style building built from brick with similar architecture to the palaces.

The town hall was built in the second half of the 20 th century in keeping with the style and materials of the rest of the buildings. The two sculptures on either side of the main entrance will particularly grab your attention. They’re the work of Aragonese sculptor Pablo Serrano and represent Saint Valerius (the city’s patron saint) and a guardian angel.

In the small square behind the Fountain of Hispanidad, you’ll find the church of San Juan de los Panetes, with its distinctive leaning tower. With the plaza’s overall sense of harmony and the slenderness of the buildings surrounding it, it’s no surprise that the square is known as “the living room of the city”.

Suvereto is a medieval town considered among the most beautiful villages in Italy. First attested in 973 and derives from the Latin Suber (cork) for its cork woods. Famous for the high quality of its oil, its wines and its characteristic festive events

A stop during the ride bewteen Colca Canyon and Arequipa. Just the time to see this beautiful herd.

As my November trip is coming up (natural disasters permitting of course), I thought I could share a photo from my last year's November trip, which was the last one I did packing my old Nikon. I have been to Ireland before, many years ago, but it was just Dublin. This time I decided to stay a few more days there and do some day trips to explore the countryland. Well worth it I will say. Galway is a beautiful city, full of vibe especially during the holiday season. Parking was a bit of a nightmare, however once I started walking Quay street towards Eyre square I instantly felt that festive vibe. Maybe it was a little too crowded for me to enjoy photographing the Latin Quarter. That didnt matter much though. Food was excellent, lots of little stores to browse and buy souvenirs etc and bars to enjoy a few pints of Irish stout.

The Golden Beer of Lapland

It was the first time I met a car with Latin winged expressions. As you can see, the credo of the owner is "Per aspera ad astra" ("Through thorns to the stars"), and the car itself, apparently, is "Alter Ego"😎

The term "Latin Quarter" originates from Paris and refers to the arrondissement where the university was located, with instruction delivered in Latin. The Montreal usage of this expression dates back to 1876, when a branch of Laval University, the precursor to the University of Montreal, settled in this area.

Tropical flowers in Villa Escudero , Philippines

Latin name: Caesalpinia pulcherrima

Dutch name: Pauwenbloem

English name (just one of them) : Peacock flower

Also known as: poinciana , red bird of paradise , Mexican bird of paradise, dwarf poinciana, pride of Barbados, and flamboyant-de-jardin.

It is also the national flower of Barbados.

As you might have read in our story abour Villa Escudero, it's a plantation as well. So it does have a wide range of beautiful , tropical , flowers to photograph.

Here's just one of them. For tactical reasons I'm keeping the rest for the winter time, because spring is here and now many people are uploading flower shots. Also I'm using this floral intermezzo as a chapter break for the next chapter of our Villa Escudero serie.
