I regularly support the UK’s National Garden Scheme through most of the summer.
This series of pictures were taken in two gardens, both of which are filled with inspiration and sheer joy. The owners use their own gardens to raise monies for charity.

Japanese Tea Garden
Central Park, San Mateo, California
The Japanese Tea Garden was designed by Nagao Sakurai and was installed in 1966. The park itself was developed after a 1922 bond measure to purchase the estate of the Kohl family.
Japanese gardens always feature water, either physically with a pond or stream, or symbolically, represented by white sand in a dry rock garden. In Buddhist symbolism, water and stone are thought of as yin and yang, two opposites that complement and complete each other.

Thanks to Flickr-friend, army.arch *Adam*, for doing the research on this, putting it into context!
"The answer is...landscape architecture.
www.asla.org/awards/2006/06winners/086.html
The original 1959 Lawrence Halprin designed landscape was reworked (extensively) in 2005. Those are guardrails, 'Sloping Guardrail. The sculptural guardrail protects people from a 15 foot drop to basement lightwell, and extends along ramps to form a boundary on each side of the plaza. It is a variation on a standard picket fence in that there are two picket types attached to horizontal steel rails and posts attached to a sloping battered wall.'"
The annals will show that the greatest place to be on the planet Earth on October 22, 2007 was the Japanese Garden in Portland, Oregon.
The weather was incredible, and the Maples and other trees were exuberant as they bathed their colors in the sunlight. The smells were fantastic, the sounds were welcome and soothing, and the crew tended a special and rare pattern to the garden, the rice field pattern.
Dancing Ganesha On Snake Statue 2ft
This statue is carefully handmade of best-quality black stone, rendering it extremely durable and long-lasting. The statue is polished and the carvings done on the statue are completely defined and clear. The statue is perfect for any indoor or outdoor placement.
The black stone dancing Ganesha on snake statue depicts the Hindu deity Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, in a jubilant dancing stance atop a coiled snake. The statue, made of black stone, is embellished with exquisite embellishments and profound meaning. The snake on which he is dancing signifies kundalini energy, which represents control over wants and fear. The statue is a prominent kind of sacred art in Hinduism, and individuals who keep it in their homes or set it in temples are said to get blessings of pleasure, success, and protection.

Green roofs are a great way to increase green space while still allowing for development to take place. Birds can use green roofs as habitat for foraging and nesting, while the vegetative cover also serves as excellent building insulation.

OK, well maybe one more - but once I'd got the title of an old Miles Davis number in my head I had to use it!

Looking over the Cheonggyecheon restoration in Seoul, South Korea. This design overseen by EDAW (AECOM?) daylit a stream long buried by a highway. The stepping stones over the water are a wonderfully bold move, along with the lack of handrails. This treatment makes for an authentic and accessible experience.
