It was a beautiful day in NW Florida so I headed out in the morning to Fort Pickens on the West end of Santa Rosa Island, Florida. There I was able to capture many shots of the Ospreys. I will say that the Ospreys were very active yesterday.

This is another, again, of the Nazca lines. It is the landing strip. There are a couple of items here that show us just how friggin' big these are. The triangle is surrounded by two dry river beds, and a town to the north.

This would look very different now from this February 1982 view as they've added quite a few runways by now. We were in a Beech A36 Bonanza and little guys don't mix well with heavy traffic and the tower was a bit impatient with us. Note that there are 6 Boeing 727s in this shot; 5 from American Airlines and 1 from Braniff. That alone makes this a rare shot. We're headed for the short runway at right.
Sparkling water, large sunlit rocks, landing gear down, and orange foot pads...should be a smooth landing today.
I felt like I was the one buckling up for the ride.

Based on timing them with my car, mallards fly between 30 and 40-mph. Of course, they slow a good bit before hitting the water, but they still glide on top of the water for a good ways before coming to a stop.
