This specimen of labradorite exhibits a schiller effect, which is a strong play of iridescent blue and green. Labradorite is so well known for these spectacular displays of colour that the phenomenon is known as “labradorescence.” Specimens with the highest quality labradorescence are often selected for use as gemstones. Labradorescence is not a display of colors reflected from the surface of a specimen. Instead, light enters the stone, strikes a twinning surface within the stone, and reflects from it. The colour seen by the observer is the color of light reflected from that twinning surface. Different twinning surfaces within the stone reflect different colours of light. Light reflecting from different twinning surfaces in various parts of the stone can give the stone a multi-colored appearance.

100% Natural AAA Quality LABRADORITE Teardrop Beads Necklace with Silver Lobster Lock.

Newfoundland- Labrador Canada

Labradorite is a feldspar mineral with an iridescent effect that varies in colour and quality. It is mainly found in Canada and Finland, but also in some US locations.

Labradorite is a feldspar mineral of the plagioclase group, often characterized by a brilliant change of colors, with blue and green most common.

Here it is trimmed in 24K Gold in a paperweight.

Photos of a piece of labradorite that I have. The "reverse" side, i.e. the unpolished side, is much more interesting and vibrant than the polished side; in the right light it shines like a kingfisher in the sun! All the more amazing because it looks SO dull and rough when the light isn't catching it in the right way. Some of these extreme close-ups also made me think of glowing coals, with exotic blue fire instead of red.

Labradorite. The mineral, one of the feldspar group, is a calcium sodium aluminum silicate. Labrador, Newfoundland, Canada.

This necklace is 18 inches long and can be clasped a little shorter. The pendant hangs on a delicate looking chain with a lobster clasp. The pendant is wirewrapped with whimsically placed spirals - its 1.5 inches from top to bottom.
