Macro of a cut slab of labradorite seems to mimic the deep space images as seen from the various space telescopes. The light entering the feldspar crystals is reflected back out after absorbing all but the colors we observe in the mineral.

On Sunday when the storm started we went to a gem show, little that we know it will be the last time we went out for 2 weeks.
The colors on this Labradorite stone looks great but like an Opal it has to be on the right angle to see those great details of blue,
That was our choice for granite top for the kitchen but when you see it in a big slab the colors are not as intense,

This beautiful, iridescent, and magical feldspar mineral is one of my favorites, especially in the right light. It gets it's name because it was discovered in the Labrador Peninsula in Quebec, Canada. Those who wear it are said to be connected to the spiritual realm.

This forest is a polished labradorite mineral specimen. The natural patterns and colors are produced by light refracted by microscopic crystals in the stone. This phenomenon is called labradorescence.

Cool looking stone a friend shared to take a few pics. With the right lighting you can really make the colors pop. Trying to control the specular highlights is a challenge. Shot with YN565EXII strobe through a translucent reflector.
