"Nature Walk" on Jan 23
Since we didn't have class last Thursday, I decided to spend some time walking around the woods. I really wanted to take a picture of a bird. I was starting to get discouraged because all the birds were too far from me to get a clear good picture of them but then I saw this little guy. When I first saw him, he was just hopping on the ground and then he flew on some tiny twigs popping up from the snow. He was very active and kept moving from place to place and from the ground to twigs to back to the ground, but he didn't fly away from me. So, I spent some time watching him and waiting to get the best picture and luckily, he just kept getting closer and closer until I got this picture and then my dog scared him away. This little guy was so adorable I had to take his picture, and he just kept chirping and moving around. I absolutely love the little red feathers on top of his head and how the sun was coming down through the trees. Being able to have this picture and having that interaction with this little guy made me extremely happy and completely made my day!

Lab P4, in the ground floor extension of the science building, was originally intended as a project lab. This photograph, from 1984, shows a solar panel being constructed by Cox and Seb Oliver, Sadly, young Mr Oliver is out of shot; he is now a Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Sussex University.
My lab time is usually from 9:30-12:30. However, the lab midterm is only an hour long, and we have to draw for tickets to see who comes at a later or earlier time. I got the later time (only 2 exam times per regular lab time) and my friend was instantly trying to trade with me (do I want to do the exam from 9:30-10:30? Not when I've got a class right before!).

This exercise was a stretch for me! I gave my cat a new feather to play with, then just tried to keep up. I did several pages of multiple drawings, smearing most of them as I went (need more experience with charcoal, I guess....).
