Back in the lab after a good weekend. The PI is a Nikon man himself, so we talked for a bit about photography.
Teachers from several local elementary schools participated in a summer institute organized by EduDesign Lab, a teacher-led professional development effort launched four years ago by the University of Washington College of Education’s INSPIRE initiative. Cameron Currie Lab -- MSB -- CALS -- UW-Madison -- This picture is of an Acromyrmex volcanus colony maintained in the lab. These ants are located on a spongey fungus garden which they grow themselves. This colony of a leaf cutter ant species cuts leaves, and then incorporates the fresh leaf material into the tops of their gardens. Leaf pieces are cut to a small size ( * notice green leaf fragments in the fungus near the ants ) and then tufts of fungus are "planted" on the leaves. The fungus then uses the leaves as a substrate on which to grow. Notice the fuzzy white material covering the ants. This substance is actually a bacteria that produces antibiotics which protect the the ant's cultivar ( farmed fungus ) from harmful pathogens. In fact, the ants have specialized gardening and weeding behaviors where the ants will rub the white bacteria onto parts of the garden that are infected so that the actibiotics produced by the bacteria may come into contact with the infection.
The FOUNDING LAB is a collaborative effort between the Institute of Digital Sciences Austria (IDSA) and Ars Electronica. Its aim is to identify, develop, and present new areas, approaches, and formats that address the challenges of digital transformation. By overcoming disciplinary boundaries, it confronts the contradictory and conflicting realities of today and cultivates the skills to navigate an increasingly digital world.

The lab of Professor Amanda Schmidt uses fallout radionuclides and geographic information systems data to determine the effects of human land use change on erosion and sediment sourcing within watersheds.
My teacher brought us to the PC Lab a few times this semester in order to
have us complete some proficiency tests. These tests help to understand how
the students are learning the context and then plan effectively for future
semesters. This day I was lost because I had forgotten that we were in the
PC Lab, so when I rushed into the lab, I simultaneously got ready to do
work and also tried to wind down from being outside. I caught this photo of
my sunglasses and my pencil case and reflected in my glasses you can see my
school bag. This photo looks like I'm about to start my work or maybe I'm
about to pack up and leave.
