LVT-Sonderfahrt in Hohenebra auf der Strecke Nordhausen - Erfurt. Der Sonderzug startete von hier zu einer Stichfahrt auf die Strecke Richtung Menteroda

The Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT) was a class of amphibious warfare vehicle, a small amphibious landing craft, introduced by the United States Navy, Marine Corps and Army during World War II. Originally intended solely as cargo carriers for ship to shore operations, they rapidly evolved into assault troop and fire support vehicles as well. The types were all widely known as amphtrack, amtrak, amtrac etc., a portmanteau of amphibious tractor.

The LVT 1 could carry 18 fully equipped men or 4,500 pounds (2,041 kg) of cargo. Originally intended to carry replenishment from ships ashore, they lacked armor protection and their tracks and suspension were unreliable when used on hard terrain. However, the Marines soon recognized the potential of the LVT as an assault vehicle. Armored versions were introduced as well as fire support versions, dubbed Amtanks, which were fitted with turrets from Stuart series light tanks (LVT(A)-1) and Howitzer Motor Carriage M8s (LVT(A)-4). Among other upgrades were a new powerpack, also borrowed from the Stuarts, and a torsilastic suspension which significantly improved performance on land.

Had a few changes here and there..im re shooting some older models at better angles..my stream has already halfed over last few days..most of the older pics are still available on Brickshelf under "Clausewitz" but theres no point keeping them on here.

The central Leatherneck Gallery in the National Museum of the Marine Corps is intended to bring to mind feelings of courage, determination, compassion, innovation and the tight bonds that are formed between comrades in arms. The artefacts, vignettes, testimonials, and images in this space are intended to honour the contributions of every Marine.

Above, the diorama on the gallery floor features an LVT-1 amphibious tractor breaching the defensive log wall on the Pacific island of Tarawa during the 20-23 November 1943 battle for the atoll at the beginning of America's offensive in the central Pacific.

Suspended above that is a Vought Corsair. This aircraft type did not come into Marine Corps service until 1943 and F4U-4 variants, like 97369 above, did not enter service until late 1944. However, Marine Corps squadrons equipped with this variant participated in the Battle of Okinawa and other parts of the later Pacific campaign. They also participated in the Korean War.

This weekends creations... Finished up the LVT. Then wanted another, but decided on a modular drop in. :) LVT4-A. Finished up restructuring the WC63. Middle of frame is MUCH STURDIER now. Extended it back one more brick. Made a DBG PA willys jeep for the LVT. Of course it fits with room to spare. :) Also finally built my version of Major's fine Type 95. I still can not find 2 tan and 2 DBG curved bricks for the sides. Used slopes instead, for now. Finally got the pieces to fix my M2A4's suspension. Looks much better now.

Merry Christmas once again guys ; ) ..lets all hope for a great 2014

LVT-4 on the new lowered chassis. This is the same model I previously built IRL that is modular with my LVT A-4/5. Holds 8 Marines or a jeep and gear. On my real build, I have CombatBricks .50s mounted up front and Brickarms .30s mounted on the sides. In LDD, I still like making brick built machine guns. :) Credit to PA for the original design.

FM me if you need any more detailed shots

Not really a variant, but a USMC field necessity. Needing immediate arty on the beach, the Marines decided to roll a 105 up into a LVT-4, strap it down, and send it in with the assault troops. Was a REALLY tight fit for my 105. Added an inner ramp and a few studs to hold it in place. Credit still goes to PA for his original LVT. A few more LVTs rendering now, this time a few Tommies. :)

I modified my LVT-4 to be the a variant with the turret on top. I also used a modified Sherman turret for this build and I think it looks pretty good. Considering my part selection is fairly limited right now I think this turned out really nice. It still has all the features of the original lvt as well; opening rear hatch, driver and co-driver seat with controls, opening drivers hatch. Hope you enjoy.
