Woodlands Edge is a sustainable residential community built utilizing low-impact development techniques. Almost 40% of the land is preserved as permanent greenspaces, which adjoin most home sites. The land plan and streets were designed to conform to the land and terrain, thus preserving vegetation, minimizing cuts and fills, and reducing erosion and siltation in the watershed. Modified street grades and widths were approved by the city, reducing the amount of impervious surfacing and the need for excessive cuts and fills. Trees were surveyed and the critical root zones were delineated and protected during construction to enhance their survival. Techniques such as root pruning, aeration systems, tunneling, and root bridging were used to help assure survival. Most of the site’s natural drainage flows were protected to reduce cost and enhance wildlife habitat. An extensive trail system was also built throughout the greenspaces to provide access to natural areas and wildlife observation areas. Storm water detention requirements were met by construction of a regional wet-storage detention pond, which also provides recreational opportunities for residents with a catch and release fishing program. Native vegetation was used in lieu of high maintenance landscape materials. An environmental education program was also provided for residents.
More Than More was lucky enough to catch The Race of Gentlemen in Wildwood, NJ this October. Arguably the most photogenic automotive event in the US, this race is invitation only and limited to only pre-war (1920's and 30's) cars and motorcycles. For us, it couldn't be missed.
