Swiss-trained hotel chef Abdalla Ihwadi, 47, prepares food in Benghazi for rebels fighting Colonel Gaddafi's army. Originally from Benghazi, Mr Ihwadi worked in one of the city's premier hotels for 12 years, before morving to Tripoli and cooking at the 5 star Corinthia hotel. He left Tripoli by chance, a day before violence broke out, to visit his ailing mother. Now he works seven days a week, from 7am-9pm, running a kitchen in an old Navy base. A team of women help him cook simple Libyan fare, boy scouts pack the meals into individual portions and load lorries to the front. "It's my duty to help my people," he said.

These Libyan stamps were issued in 1996 to mark the tenth anniversary of the US bombing of Tripoli.
