This is my "elevator speech" on what a teacher librarian does! I like the way wordle summarized the job!
Here's my tattoo courtesy of Anne Marsh, Nemesis Tattoo in Iowa City. It's the library sign, an open book, and the Shaker tree of life. I think it turned out well.
“I work part-time in the library but I’m also an artist. I’ve worked as a librarian for seventeen years now. It’s nice coming back to work at this campus as this is where I started as a student. I came from the North East to study fine art here in the early 90’s. I never left after that. After graduating I had an art studio for a while. I used to paint huge canvases but now I have to contend with what I can fit in my house. The hardest thing has been to keep on painting, maintaining that side of myself. There were a lot of years when I couldn’t do it. I felt like I was functioning half empty for a lot of years. There was an emptiness which I hadn’t realised until I started it back up. It’s nice to feel whole again.”
Dark Angels Librarian, from the Dark Vengeance box. Decided to quickly finish these after they had spent a lot of time on my shelf.
I am preparing for a pecha kucha session tomorrow. I did a simple search using just the word "librarian" on flickrcc and here are the results. I was amazed at how many of those images I recognized and how many I could put names to in an instance just from the thumbnails.
Who do you recognize? How many can you name?
t-shirt reads: Librarians Know How To Check It Out
I got this t-shirt at Fossil a few years ago, and I always get a ton of compliments when I wear it out. For example, I wore it to ArtBeat 2007 in Davis Square and at least five people came up to me asking about it or saying they liked it.
In honor of my job being extended I instituted "Dress Like a Librarian Week" ... this is Monday.

Another "Naughty Librarian" pic. In this one you can read the book titles on the skirt. That was the only thing 'bookish' about the costume, although someone else craved the glasses and I *tried* to put my hair in a bun. The naughtiest thing were the nacklace and earrings, which you can't see in any of these pics. I will just say there is a naked lady adorning my ears in these pics. Photo by Kristyn Huige.
