During construction this MOC was referred to only as 'nimrod," which is entirely irrelevant, but is also the only thing I have to say about her right now. Review coming soon over in YT land.

An update to the classic 1995 set 8440. Keeping the scale the same and updating the body work, I was able to keep the steering and V-6, and add in removable wings and engine cover.

The challenge for this MOD was the front axle. If I could get the front axle to work, I could get the rest of the project to work. As shown by efferman, a V-8 will fit, so with a little work, a couple CV joints, and some serious reworking of the front frame, I was able to add a driving axle to the front of the model.

Constructive criticism appreciated.
This is the front of my Unimog U500 Long. This was the first Truck Trial that I made where I focused a lot on the driveline. After I scaled everything, I made sure everything was going to function in a proper was. The result was powerful, and effective, but it was limited in it off road abilities. The gearing was 9:1 which gave it plenty of power, but not a lot of speed. The Dual PF XL motors gave the model propulsion, and a PF M for the steering. The two portal axles were pendular, and connected front to rear for a free moving, yet planted suspension.
Aesthetically, it was one of the better models I did. Hope you enjoy. More pictures at www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?m=thirdwigg. Email thirdwig@yahoo.com for a Chicago Truck Trial Race.

One of my favorite MOCs, with some very small updates/polishing (mostly I just wanted to take some better pictures of him).
