When the brains attacked Makuhero City, preventing the heroes from being infected became of utmost priority for Hero Factory. As a result, in order to safeguard the precious Quaza Hero Cores many new pieces of armor were developed. One of these prototypes is proudly worn by Proto Team Leader Omar Cage and is said to be the most unbreachable and secure Quaza Core ever installed. It is so secure, in fact, that it requires a 40 minutes disassembly process every time it needs to be recharged. No matter how smart the enemy, no brain can get through three passwords, an armored padlock, a fingerprint scan and a captcha!

Since I built Xplode, it seemed only a matter of time before I built his Arch-Nemesis (according to the back of the box) Good ol’ Dunkan Bulk.

Yeah this guy was...a challenge. A fun one, a really satisfying one, but a challenge nonetheless. Unlike Xplode, Bulk has had several sets, all of which interpret him in pretty different ways. I chose to hone in on those details that felt most true to the character, and his role in Alpha Team. So I decided to make something of a blend of his 1.0 and Breakout incarnations, with some light sprinklings of details from his other versions. His Core was lifted from his 3.0 set, to help bring out some more of the orange accents that became more prevalent with each design.

His overall color scheme is a return to his original set, with the black accents beneath heavy silver armor, and some orange to make it pop. I find it’s a much more clean and crisp combination, compared to the much muddier and bland colors of his later sets.

A big source of inspiration as I continued building was the look of some other “Big guy” characters, namely War Machine and Ironhide (the one from the WFC-FOC games) and those kinda helped bring some of his weapons and proportions into focus. I went with much slimmer, shorter legs, to really emphasize his large shoulders and chest. In some pictures they look a bit wonky, but in person I think they look pretty neat.

His main weapon is heavily inspired by the guns from the aforementioned Transformers games, even down to the way he holds it, felt appropriate for the big guy to be lugging around some massive cannon like that, so I went with it. Plus it works as a nice callback to Bulk’s previous arm-guns.

The biggest issue I personally have with this build is the articulation. It’s awful. In my efforts to make him as beefy as I could, a lot of joints were restricted. He looks fine just sorta...standing there, but compared to Xplode he’s practically a statue.

Overall I’m really happy with how this MOC turned out, and I’d love to continue doing HF revamps in the future (if I don’t run out of pieces first)

Thanks for checking out my stuff! Have a great day!

Xplode was my first HF villain set, and I’ve been wanting to do a revamp of him for quite a while. So once I finished Thonk, I decided to try tackling something a bit smaller, more simple. A nice change of pace.

So of course I almost doubled the amount of spikes and gave him a giant spiky buster sword.

I had considered using a more tame and faithful alternative for his mace-ax-club-sword-thingamajig but I felt like he called for something heavier. Plus I had ordered three extra blade pieces that I didn’t want laying around.

Another change was the beefiness of it all. I kinda liked the idea that Xplode had upgraded himself to take a few more hits. Since the Heroes had gotten more and more powerful, it only made sense that Xplode - one of the best at the whole “Criminal for hire” gig, would have made himself more endurant and powerful to stay competitive.

I did leave his meteor blaster alone, because I feel like that’s the sort of weapon he’d like to be quick and maneuverable. Something you can be quick on the draw with, rather than have a giant cannon to lug around.

Overall this MOC certainly isn’t my best, but it was never meant to be. It’s just a fun little dive back into my childhood, and into some simpler techniques and styles. It was nostalgic, while also refreshing. I’ll definitely be doing more MOC’s like this in the future.

Hero Factory's best designs are forged in times of hardship. And what could be worse than a mass breakout inside the villain storage facility?

When tasked to come up with a solution, one of the designers came up with the "FUgitive Catching Contraption", a special piece of equipment meant to quickly capture runaway villains. Proto Team rookie Willow Chase was equipped with a special interface that connected directly with this brand new piece of tech.

Unfortunately, the FU.C.C. was not without its flaws. Most of all, aiming at both wrists at the same time was quite the challenge. Secondly, Willow suffered from very poor eyesight. By the time she finally got an upgraded optic, the crisis was already averted.

This was an experimental Lego building technique that I've been dying to try. Basically, some sets use uniquely cut sheets for wings, sails, and clothes. I wanted to take this concept to it's logical extreme to see what happens.

I took heavily inspiration from the Forma sets, but I wanted to shake things up and make a fully posable figure. I'm very happy with the result! And the best part is that technically all the connections are legal because they all appear in official sets! I'm a purist, so that's important to me.

An original member of the Hand of Artahka, Strorenn is no great warrior but a reliable builder; a designer of grand complexes in the early days of Mata Nui. As time passed and the Hand eventually disbanded, he was one of a few not asked to join the succeeding group, the Order of Mata Nui. With his purpose gone, and the golden age of creation in the decline, Strorenn took to wandering the internal robotic world as a nomad.

Over the years he formed a bond with the culture of Po-Matoran and occasionally would help out around construction sites before moving on again. On one such occasion, disaster struck. Due to his large size, one act of clumsiness would level the entire work site, turning all carved works into dust. From this, a legend would arise from matoran rumors of a large rahi that comes once a year to destroy or steal their possessions.

Due to this bleak myth and an ill-chance encounter with the Toa Mangai, Strorenn was wrongly placed within the deep catacombs of the Metru Nui archives. It was during this time Strorenn looked to the future, realizing he must learn to defend himself, and honed his physical strength while imprisoned.

Years passed again and eventually he broke free with rest of the catalogued beasts during Teridax’s beginning reign of the city. Rumor says he was last seen trudging through the swamps of Karda Nui, looking to fulfill his destiny as the protector of Artahka’s Codrex.

Built for the preliminary round of Bio-Cup 2022

Theme: Nature

I won't deny that I was stuck, looking for a concept, for as long as a full week. I really wanted to avoid making a whole moc designed around plants, trees or flowers, and didn't want to make a simple animal either.

The concept behind this build is quite straight-forward: what if Mother Nature was some kind of lovecraftian, outer space entity, instead of her typical motherly/human-like depiction?

The first things I designed were the torso and belly. I really wanted to keep the key mother nature symbolism (all the recalls to fertility and being a mother and whatnot) while adding an outerworldly feel to all of it. I also wanted her head to have a single eye that resembled a bright star.

The addition of tentacles at the vertical edges of the moc was a simple way to strengthen the cosmic horror feel of the build. The blue zamor represents, of course, a planet fit to inhabit life.

Huge thanks to @Dv_mocs and @Carecreations_ for helping me out both in defining the early concept and in the final edits!

Mark 1 of the F-UR defense unit were designed by the Makuro corporation and deployed in Makuhero City with the purpose on cleasing it from its deeply rooted criminality problem. Since then, these units patron the streets of the metropolis with the purpose of eradicating crime once and for all. They are equipped with heat blasters and built with light, durable alloys covered in fire-resistant armor. They are authorized to open fire at their own discretion, and they aren't exactly known for being merciful.

A Po-Matoran who loves Kohli and once helped Takua along his journeys?… Or a secretive, all powerful, all knowing, Great Being in disguise?

The one who would choose to become known as Podu, was already reclusive compared to his fellow great beings. More concerned with the next technological project than associating or allying himself with others.

When the great cataclysm of Sphereus Magna came crashing down many great beings gave in to their fear and joined Velika in his plan to escape within the Great Spirit robot.

Podu quickly regretted his choice to throw in with the crazed Velika and parted ways with the mad being. He took up a simple life, using his advanced engineering skills as a stone carver in Metru Nui, and later again on the island of Mata Nui.

After the conjunction of the planets and Bara Magna bloomed, Podu moved into the Great Desert with the rest of the Po-Matoran, continuing to fool everyone.

Upon hearing of Velika’s path of destruction across the planet, Podu realized there would be no solace. The veneer of his false identity cracked, revealing the intelligent monster that had been waiting to strike all these many years. Leaving his hidden life, Podu plans to return to his ancient workshop and release his terrible creations upon the world so that he may be finally left alone in silent peace.

This is a revamp to the original Evo Breakout set. I made it as a tribute to how much I liked that set in it's semplicity. Honestly one of my favourite. The build is simple, but I tried to spice things up nonetheless with the leg design, arm cannon and entirely custom torso.

kinda based off XLR8 and other fast dudes.

These assassin droids hide in the shadows to eliminate their targets. Extremely agile and flexible, Mark 2 units are far superior than the old Mark 1 units from the ##10s. This particular one lost its right arm while executing a job and retrofitted an arm from an unreleased Mark 3 unit to get the job done.

Tasked to traverse the snow capped world of Krysto by HF Mission Control, Stormer has been sent to rescue a team of trapped Brickonium miners within the crystalized tunnels below the frozen surface. He comes prepared for the cold; equipped with a chain-sledge splitting maul to cut through the ice, a spear gauntlet for any glacial climbing, as well as thermal armor and an extra energy pack to both boost power and longevity to his gear. With the assistance of the rocket research team and their prototype satellite tech to track his way, it’s a race against temperature and time to find the isolated miners and bring them back safely.

Made for Hero February over on Instagram.

Just a fun little build primarily for my own enjoyment, made with the goal of using only pieces I currently have in my collection and of course, finishing before the end of the month.

Nitroblast and the Fire Villains are definitely a soft spot for me in the HF Roster, with some very charming sets and interesting designs from the earliest days of CCBS. With this revamp I wanted to honor the most unique and iconic features from the original, while doing my best to balance a cleaner, sleeker design with the Fire Villain's signature style of spikes, flames and jet engines.

It was a lot of fun to tackle a weirder character and design, without the pressures of more humanoid proportions and techniques.

I hope you all enjoy!

I

I upgraded this guy a couple months back, but since everyone's doing new photoshoots for #nationalselfmocsday I figured now would be a good time to post him!

The updates are mainly to his proportions and stability, with a drone companion and arm-cannon added on for kicks and giggles. Oh yeah, energy cells on his back for powering his weapons.

Overall I'm really happy with where RT is right now, kinda feels like I've worked all of the kinks out of this particular iteration.

Thanks for checking him out! Have a great day! ~Stronk.

So the 2014 Hero Factory "Invasion From Below" sets finally showed up at my local Walmart, and with the combination of pieces from old HF sets I already had, this is what I came up with.

Loner. Stranger. A ‘collection of past lives.’ That’s how the residents of the land speak of this aging wanderer. Once a brutish Dark Hunter within the corrupted shell of Mata Nui. Once a fearful Glatorian fighter in the remaining outlaw pits of the Bara Magna Dunes. And now once again, a weary, roaming traveler. Strength has kept him alive this long, but danger and greed have taken almost all his old compatriots and friends. To most, he is certainly past his prime, and most certainly lacking in purpose. But perhaps destiny is not forced, it is found. Rumors from border towns tell tales of a lone warrior protecting innocents from desert raiders. It seems Burdux has taken to a new duty to defend the peoples of the waste.

Xplode was my first HF villain set, and I’ve been wanting to do a revamp of him for quite a while. So once I finished Thonk, I decided to try tackling something a bit smaller, more simple. A nice change of pace.

This is a joke right? They didn't honestly think this prototype would fly right?? The rotor blades are too crowded, the servos are burned out, the counter balance is outdated, the landing gear is broken, and don't even get me started on the navigation system!! The wings are too weak AND have feathers glued onto them??! It’s leaking fuel, the crane arm is over powered, the engines are overloaded, and the cardboard box is so badly damaged I don’t even know what I ordered!!!!

Built for Round 2 of the Moc League 2023.

Theme: Falling with Style

Review: ★☆☆☆☆

“It crashed in my yard and cant fly away so I guess it’s mine now?”

Six Toa heroes washed ashore on a tropical Island called Mata Nui. Although united by the same duty, they were not created equal: they were meant to work together to overcome their weaknesses, their differences. But a great evil grew discontent with their lack of uniformity, he could not see the purpose in their unique design. In his hubris, the villainous Dan created a powerful weapon, the V-Shape-Inator, capable of correcting these disgusting imperfections and restoring every ugly Toa to his great design: a body in the shape of his name.

Built for Dan V's birthday!

This is a MOV of Ems' original design of Dennis Price, and my entry for his MOV Contest. Out of all his 2.5 Heroes, Dennis is definitely among my favourites because of his layered color scheme and shoulder cannons. I tried to replicate these aspects of the original design, giving him detailed custom built gloves and forearms, two weapons mounted on his back, a mostly accurate color scheme and a custom painted face. Had a ton of fun building him!

After being left stranded in space by his crew, Dr. J. Guericke had put together a robust suit of armor and a fearsome weapon, the “Black Hole”. Delta Team Leader Ean Smith was the last obstacle preventing him from getting his revenge.

During their confrontation, Guericke’s growing guilt quickly replaced his thirst for vengeance. As he was feeling remorseful for his villainous actions, Ean Smith took advantage of his change of heart and defeated him.

Even so, the brilliance of his Black Hole weapon couldn’t be ignored by Hero Factory. After spending a short sentence, Dr. J. Guericke was offered a job as a rookie hero and was tasked with designing new gadgets for his teammates.

Dr. J. Guericke’s genius had been finally recognized, and he would have the chance to prove himself on the field as a proud member of Proto Team, Hero Factory’s worst squad ever.

Behind every successful Hero model, there are others that weren’t quite as effective. Introducing Proto Team’s first member, Samson Buster 2.5. Designed before the 3.0 models, he was meant to go toe to toe with Quatros’ dangerous wildlife, but it quickly became apparent that building a full gorilla hexosuit would tear through the assigned budget. As a result, Buster was stuck with a giant mechanical arm and chronic back pain.

The most fearsome of predators stands guard deep within the wilderness. Toa of Plantlife Iwhaka is a force of nature, the jungle itself obeying her every command. No prey shall ever escape her chase, no coward shall ever find shelter, for her fury is relentless.

The swamps rest still, not a sound to be heard for miles except that of running water. The deadliest of predators lurks below the surface, motionless. Many believe the secret to hunting to be a matter of strength, or perhaps a display of endurance. Toa of Water Ihuroa knows it to be a test of patience, and when the moment is right she always strikes true.
