Lugar de culto, peregrinación y turismo desde el siglo XVIII. Esta situado en el cañón del río Guaitara, a siete kilómetros de la ciudad de Ipiales, en el departamento de Nariño, al sur de Colombia.
La edificación actual (la cuarta desde el siglo XVIII) es una iglesia de estilo neo gótico, sustituyó una capilla que databa del Siglo XIX y fue construida, entre enero de 1916 y agosto de 1949 con los aportes de los numerosos y fieles devotos. En su interior se rinde culto a la Virgen del Rosario cuya imagen pintada por un autor desconocido en una piedra laja junto a un camino en el cañón del río, conmovió a la comunidad de tal manera que, calificándolo como prodigio, convirtió el lugar en una referencia para toda la comarca incluyendo el norte del Ecuador y el vínculo con el país vecino es tan fuerte que algunos ecuatorianos consideran que la Virgen de Las Lajas les pertenece. Los devotos también la llaman cariñosamente 'La ojona' o 'La mestiza'. Su aparición se conmemora los primeros 15 días de cada septiembre.
Los accesos al santuario característicamente escalonados por la topografía del terreno, están llenos de exvotos (ver exvoto) y placas con agradecimientos por los favores recibidos, así como con aparatos ortopédicos para dar testimonio de curaciones.

La historia, o la leyenda, cuenta que alrededor de 1754 la imagen de la Virgen del Rosario fue descubierta por una indígena llamada Maria Mueses con Rosa, su pequeña hija. Cuando se dirigían a su casa, al verse sorprendidas por una tormenta, buscaron refugio a la vera del camino entre las oquedades formadas por las piedras planas y anchas o losas naturales (lajas) inmensas que caracterizan esa zona del cañón del río. Para sorpresa de la madre, la niña que hasta ese momento era considerada sordomuda, llama su atención con las palabras: " La mestiza me llama..." señalando la pintura seguramente iluminada en forma sugestiva por los relámpagos.
El franciscano Fray Juan de Santa Gertrudis, en su crónica del viaje entre 1756- 1762 por el sur del Reino de Nueva Granada, publicada en cuatro tomos con el título de “Maravillas de la naturaleza”, menciona la historia, siendo posiblemente la fuente más antigua de la misma.
En 1951 el Vaticano decreto la coronación canonica de Nuestra Señora de Las Lajas y el santuario es basílica menor desde 1954.
En 2007 uno de los principales diarios del país llevo a cabo un concurso para elegir las 7 maravillas de Colombia y el Santuario de Las Lajas obtuvo la segunda votación más alta; solo superada por la Catedral de Sal de Zipaquirà.

The 614-foot (187 m) high hotel has 45 floors, with the 2,716 rooms range in size from 640 sq ft (59 m2) to the villas at 7,000 sq ft (650 m2). The complex also includes a 111,000 sq ft (10,300 m2) casino, a convention center with 223,000 sq ft (20,700 m2) of space, and 76,000 sq ft (7,100 m2) of retail space. Together with the adjacent Encore, the entire Wynn resort complex has a total of 4,750 rooms.
The resort has earned AAA five diamond, Mobil five-star, Forbes five-star, and Michelin five star ratings for hotel, as well as one Michelin star for restaurant Wing Lei. and is considered to be one of the finest hotels in the world. Wynn Las Vegas and its sister property Encore Las Vegas collectively hold more Forbes five-star awards than any other resort and casino in the world. Wynn Las Vegas also made Forbes Award history by earning five-star ratings in every category—Hotel, Restaurant, and Spa—for two consecutive years. It has held the distinction of winning the award in the hotel sector for four consecutive years, since 2007. The building is the first high-rise to be cleaned by an automatic window washing system.

The SLS Hotel & Casino Las Vegas is a boutique hotel and casino located on the Las Vegas Strip in Winchester, Nevada. It is owned by SBE Entertainment and Stockbridge Real Estate and reopened on August 23, 2014 after a $415 million renovation as part of SBE's chain of SLS hotels.
The hotel was formerly known as the Sahara Hotel and Casino. It was in operation under that name for 59 years from 1952 to 2011. The hotel had 1,720 guestrooms and suites with a casino covering more than 85,000 sq ft (7,900 m2), and sits on 55 acres (22 ha) including the empty adjoining land. The hotel is the northernmost stop for the Las Vegas Monorail. The Sahara was one of the last remaining vintage "Rat Pack" casino-hotels, leaving only the Riviera Hotel and Casino. The Sahara anchored the northern end of the Las Vegas Strip.

Las Vegas, colloquially referred to as Vegas, is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Nevada and the seat of Clark County. Las Vegas was settled in 1905 and officially incorporated in 1911. At the close of the 20th century, it was the most populated North American city founded within that century (a similar distinction was earned by Chicago in the 19th century). Population growth has accelerated since the 1960s and into the 21st century, and between 1990 and 2000 the population nearly doubled, increasing by 85.2%. As with most major metropolitan areas, the name of the primary city ("Las Vegas" in this case) is often used to describe areas beyond official city limits. La playa de las Catedrales está situada en la costa de la provincia de Lugo (Galicia). Se le llama así por el conjunto de acantilados, algunos con más de 32 metros de altura, que esculpidos por el viento y el mar, forman unos arcos y bóvedas espectaculares dejando un paisaje maravilloso en la que está considerada como una de las playas más espectaculares del mundo.
Las Médulas (As Médulas or As Meduas in Galician language) is a historical site near the town of Ponferrada in the region of El Bierzo (province of León, Castile and León, Spain), which used to be the most important gold mine in the Roman Empire. Las Médulas Cultural Landscape is listed by the UNESCO as one of the World Heritage Sites.
The spectacular landscape of Las Médulas resulted from the ruina montium, a Roman mining technique described by Pliny the Elder in 77 AD. The technique employed was a type of hydraulic mining which involved undermining a mountain with large quantities of water. The water was supplied by interbasin transfer. At least seven long aqueducts tapped the streams of the La Cabrera district (where the rainfall in the mountains is relatively high) at a range of altitudes. The same aqueducts were used to wash the extensive gold deposits.
The area Hispania Tarraconensis had been invaded in 25 BC by the emperor Augustus. Prior to the Roman conquest the indigenous inhabitants obtained gold from alluvial deposits. Large-scale production did not begin until the second half of the 1st century AD.

This belonged to my grandma, who was a lounge singer at the Horseshoe back in the day.
Don't know the specific date the scene above represents, but it has to be sometime between 1950 (when the Desert Inn opened) and 1955 (when the Last Frontier became the New Frontier).
