Las Parrandas è una festa che si svolge tutti gli anni nella cittadina di Remedios nel periodo natalizio. E' una specie di palio che si combatte tra i due quartieri San Salvador (il gallo) e El Carmen (il falco) a colpi di fuochi di artificio, incomincia alle 17 del 24, con una pausa di un'ora a mezzanotte per la messa di Natale, prosegue per tutta la notte e termina alle 11 del mattino del 25 dicembre. Nel 2016 non si è potuta tenere a causa del lutto per la morte di Fidel la battaglia dei fuochi d'artificio è stata spostata ai giorni 8 e 9 gennaio 2017

"Las Parrandas" is the Christmas festival that take place in Remedios”. It's one of the most popular events of the region, and considered the oldest festivities in Cuba, the “parrandas” take place between the 16th to the 26th of December every year.
Celebrations include street parades with rumba percussion ensembles, music and verses, a float display and the very dramatic fireworks competition.
The story: Las Parrandas were born in the 18th century when Father Francisco Vigil de Quiñones, the priest of the Grand Cathedral of Remedios, had the idea to put together groups of children and provide them with jars, plates and spoons so they could run around the village making noise and singing verses, in order to get the people to come to midnight masses the week before Christmas. The idea persisted over the years and with time it gain complexity ending in the street party that has remained till these days.
That singular and noisy initiative got deeply rooted among the population, resulting in the most attractive festivity in the country. In 1871, the "parrandas" adopted a structure that has survived the passage of time. According to tradition, when the bells of the Iglesia Parroquial Mayor (Major Parochial Church) toll at 9 o'clock on the night of December 24, two neighborhoods make public their creativeness and efforts made during the entire year to participate in the competition. During the "parrandas", a "fierce" competition takes place between the neighborhoods of San Salvador, represented by the colors red and blue, and a rooster as a symbol, and El Carmen, represented by the color brown and a globe.

Nada más y nada menos que nuestro querido Pepe fue a visitar a sus amigos de M&M en Las Vegas Nevada.
Señoras y señores los locos tienen por amuleto a las palomas. Cualquiera lo sabe. Pero hay locos y locos. Unos se beben la vida a sorbos pequeños y otros se atragantan. Unos tiran tarazcadas al aire, otros van de apoco con mordiscos mustios. Unos se sumergen en la vida lento, suave, casi a tientas, otros se tiran desde el trampolín más alto de las emociones y hacen concursos para ver quién salpica más. Cada loco con su tema.
Los locos andan por todas partes atados a un globo invisible donde guardan su brújula respectiva. No les importan los puntos cardinales ni los campos magnéticos, les importa el movimiento de las estrellas, la luz de los cometas y el resplandor del horizonte. Todo loco trae guardada en su brújula y su globo un horizonte. En los trenes, en las calles, en los edificios se les ve atareados en lustrar brújula, globo y horizonte por que lo más importante es que brillen, en lo invisible, que brillen mucho. Los locos dan cualquier cosa por un resplandor oportuno, un destello firme y convincente, un fulgor definitivo y categórico, aunque dure poco. O quizá mejor porque dura poco saben que es preciso hallar destellos nuevos. El cielo está lleno de locos con destellos frenéticos y redentores. Uno puede mirarlos por la noche, haga calor o frío, viento o marea. Ahí están todos esos locos que se multiplican y se meten a los sueños, que van y vienen en las calles las oficinas y los trenes. Locos enamorados del airee donde brillan mejor sus destellos. Por eso los locos son amantes de la luz, de noche y de día... como palomas. La suerte mejora siempre gracias a los fulgores que los locos consiguen. Locos como palomas, como amuleto de ángeles.
