For the Hindu festival of Janmashtami which celebrates the birthday of Lord Krishna, it is customary to dress one's child up as the baby Krishna. Here's my ten-month old son in that outfit.
I met Krishna, as he wanted to be called, in the center of Oslo, collecting chestnut leaves and broken plastic bits from car lights.

Ashtami Rohini is the celebration of the birthday of Lord Krishna. This is the same as Krishna Janmashtami in the north India with regional variations. Ashtami Rohini falls in the Malayalese month of Chingam (August-September) under the fourth lunar asterism or Rohini Nakshatra, on the 8th quart of the moon Ashtami.
Ashtami Rohini, also known as Gokulashtami and Krishna Jayanti or Janmashtami is observed as a day of fasting (vratham) by the devotees of Lord Krishna. As Lord Krishna's birth 'Avathaaram' is said to have taken place on mid-night, women, specially Namboothiri women, stay awake till mid-night and keep a vigil to the Lord. Time is passed with recreational activities and merriment. Girls usually perform the graceful Kaikottikkali and sing songs. It is only after performing the traditional poojas at mid-night that the devotees partake things that have already been offered to the Lord.
Krishna temples are brilliantly decorated at this time with oil lamps and festivities continue till early hours of morning. Large numbers of devotees gather on this day for a glimpse of their Lord in full shringar. Major celebrations take place in the Guruvayur Devaswom. Devotees throng this temple with Appam and Palpayasam (cakes of rice paste and jaggery). These are considered to be Lord's favourite food. Special feasts are arranged for the devotees by the various Krishna temples on this day

Krishna (कृष्ण in Devanagari, kṛṣṇa in IAST ) is a deity worshipped across many traditions of Hinduism.
Lord Krishna's birthday, Srijayanti or Krishnashtami also known as Janmashtami is one of the most popular festival in India.
Once as we were celebrating this at home, I realised that there were many similarities between Krishna and Jesus.
Jesus and Krishna were called both a God and the Son of God.
Both were sent from heaven to earth in the form of a man.
Both were called Savior, and the second person of the Trinity.
Both had an adoptive human father who was a carpenter.
Krishna and Jesus were of royal descent.
Both were visited at birth by wise men and shepherds, guided by a star.
Angels in both cases issued a warning that the local dictator planned to kill the baby and had issued a decree for his assassination. The parents fled. Mary and Joseph stayed in Muturea; Krishna's parents stayed in Mathura.
Both claimed: "I am the Resurrection."
Both performed many miracles, including the healing of disease. One of the first miracles that both performed was to make a leper whole.
Both selected disciples to spread his teachings.
Both celebrated a last supper. Both forgave his enemies.
Both descended into Hell, and were resurrected. Many people witnessed their ascensions into heaven.
In addition to the above points of correspondence, there may be one more similarity: they may have both been crucified.
The festival which is in August looks like Christmas eve, people make also a crib with baby Krishna.
For Baby Krishna I used a picture of Tejasvi (which means "brilliant") who is the son of our workshop manager in Varanasi.
I was funny to work on this image according the classic Hindu iconography.
Happy Janmashtami to everyone...!!!
