I've been reading a lot about breast tissue, ducts and lobules etc...when I think of what my Mum is going through it helps by imagining she's on top of a giant boob mountain, wearing a studded collar, bad ass boots and doing a fist pump. So far, even after a horrid 11 weeks of chemo, she's the boss in this relationship.

Embrace Embryology: Designing an app to bridge the gap in knowledge between serial histology and embryology
Embryology is a subject which is often disliked by students in higher education. Because of the way it is currently taught, through serial histological sections, students often have difficulty engaging with it and therefore lower grades. One of the main issues encountered when trying to engage with embryology is a misunderstanding of the orientation of planes of section compared to the sample tissue.
This project aims to tackle the issue students encounter with orienting themselves in 3D space when working with 2D sections. To do this, serial sheep embryo (Carnegie stage 16) sections were imaged, stacked, and segmented to create a 3D model from real embryological data. This was implemented into an application which allows the user to examine the model and digitised slides simultaneously, similar to how one would view a medical scan. Further features to increase engagement and scope of the application such as augmented reality and an individual organ viewer were also included.
Upon testing the application against a control group who used an eHistology tool, the application outperformed the control in interest, enjoyment, and usability questionnaires. Further to this the application group demonstrated an increased understanding of orientation compared to the control in qualitative testing.
