This part of the country seems to have all hell for a basement, and the only trap door appears to be Medicine Hat. And you don't even think of changing the name of your town. It's all your own and the only hat of its kind on earth. Rudyard Kipling 1907
This is all I need! As if trial by water is not enough now I have to fight through the woods and it turned out to be a lot harder than it looks. These windfalls covered about 50/60 yards right up to the boundary fence and kissing gate that exits onto the tarmac above Spey Dam...Dratt & double-dratt.... Still Kipling said something about keeping your head... and this one suits too:
THE WAY THROUGH THE WOODS
They shut the road through the woods
Seventy years ago.
Weather and rain have undone it again,
And now you would never know
There was once a road through the woods
Before they planted the trees.
It is underneath the coppice and heath,
And the thin anemones.
Only the keeper sees
That, where the ring-dove broods,
And the badgers roll at ease,
There was once a road through the woods.
Yet, if you enter the woods
Of a summer evening late,
When the night-air cools on the trout-ringed pools
Where the otter whistles his mate.
(They fear not men in the woods,
Because they see so few)
You will hear the beat of a horse's feet,
And the swish of a skirt in the dew,
Steadily cantering through
The misty solitudes,
As though they perfectly knew
The old lost road through the woods. . . .
But there is no road through the woods.

Excerpt from "If" by Rudyard Kipling:
If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or, being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or, being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise;
One of my favourite poems ever.
I can never get over the goosebumps I get reading it. Maybe that's just a direct result of having watched this (I know it was long ago, but I guess the tennis-mania has overcome me with the US Open)
And yeah, I know I'm overdoing the sky-photos D: I can't help it, I love them no matter how cliche they are.
