Close encounters of the owl kind…Just a year later after my close encounter with the owls, I decided to return to the same woodland river location hoping for a sequel. I was not disappointed and delighted to experience that magic again!

Taken around mid morning whilst walking the Kinder circuit, hazy & patchy light. Some of the best Peak District views though.

Thanks for looking

This isn't just a small town grocery store. It's also a second hand store selling books, movies, and a bunch of other random things. I got myself a soft drink of some kind and a copy of Paddington 2 on blu-ray for $4. I had been meaning to buy this for awhile now, but just never did.

Paddington 2 is possibly the greatest movie ever made. Anyone who disagrees has either never seen it or is without a soul (etc).

I'm not entirely sure I've got the name of these rocks right, but it's about as close on the map as I can see.

After my Friday and Monday plans being ruined, out of desperation I headed out yesterday afternoon/evening to walk from Marsden to Greenfield... 13 miles on the hottest day of the year. As usual, I understimated my water usage and could have done with literally twice as much, so it was not enjoyable rationing that on the trudge across the moors... but by the time I'd reached Dick Hill and Alderman's Hill for sunset I'd enjoyed a well earned can of coke with my tea and at least had some sort of moisture in my mouth. The skies were clear, which made things challenging, and this was a new location for me - but I think I have quite a few compositions I'm happy with, including quite a few to come back to at different times of year. This one reminds me somewhat of the stacks of rock found down in the Cornwall/Devon area... not that I'm an expert... the square shapes not fitting in with the usually well weathered rock in the Peak.

In the end I managed to get from here down to the station in 30 minutes, not bad going, so had time to pop into Tesco to get a few litres of juice which I downed on the way home.

Sculpted fragments of the Vatnajökul glacier rest on the shore of Diamond Beach near the mouth of the Jökulsárlón lagoon, southern Iceland. I played around with a filter and very long exposures for awhile and I wanted to experiment with 1 to 2 second exposures and water trails, but my hands got cold. My wife was also kind enough to inform me that she'd finished off the pasta dish we'd started in the camper van while the boys dug holes in the black sand. So, cold hands and hot dinner, what was a man to do... I packed up and joined the family for hot food, and I didn't get any more photos!

Happiness of simple things

I'm trying to frame this evolving scene when that lady suddenly appears from behind me adding more visual information.

Don't overthink it, just take your shot.

Yes, it was a better shot with her back on the side walk, thus adding depth, but by that time both men were hidden behind the sign.

Just a low level walk to wear in a new pair of boots!

More from my Two of a Kind set. Two barrels hung from a post in Newhaven Harbour East Sussex UK. No idea what they were/are for but the look pretty decayed so perhaps defunct?

Images captured during an amazing few days in the Peak District. Kinder Scout boasts unforgettable views, unique moorland and even a waterfall. It offers some of the most challenging but rewarding walks in Derbyshire.

A view taken looking towards Kinder Downfall as it tumbles over the edge of the Kinder plateau.

In 1018, the city was given by the emperor Henry II to the archbishop-elector of Trier after receiving a charter. It remained in the possession of his successors until the end of the 18th century, having been their main residence since the 17th century. Emperor Conrad II was elected here in 1138. In 1198, the battle between Philip of Swabia and Otto IV took place nearby.

In 1216, prince-bishop Theoderich von Wied donated part of the lands of the basilica and the hospital to the Teutonic Knights, which later became the Deutsches Eck.

In 1249–1254, Koblenz was given new walls by Archbishop Arnold II of Isenburg; and it was partly to overawe the turbulent citizens that successive archbishops built and strengthened the fortress of Ehrenbreitstein that still dominates the city.

Kind of thought about this as a possibility for today's ODC - INTO OR OUT OF THE FRAME, but then no!

I just thought this nicely captured and framed the snow on my garden bench. 2nd Choice then!

After briefly being enveloped by low cloud, it cleared to give this view of, (a low), Kinder Reservoir from Sandy Heys on Kinder Scout.
