Pretty, isn't she? This dog took ten years off my life.
Kiki is staying with us because her owners, my stepson and his wife, are vacationing in Puerto Rico. While taking care of her, our elderly sick dog, and our year-old pup, I've also been farm girl as my husband recovers from minor surgery.
Two days into dogsitting while I fed our cows, Kiki backed into the electric fence and shot out of the barnyard like a bullet.

Ever lose your stepson's dog and have to tell your husband?
Don called for her endlessly while I walked our property for two solid hours looking for that animal, then drove to Kiki's home, ten miles away. Not unreasonable, since she knows the way and as an Aussie-Border Collie mix, she is capable of running up to seventy five miles a day. No luck. Drove home, hiked the mountain for another two hours, drove back to her house, and again, no luck. Completely dejected, I went home, thinking crazy, wondering where I could get a duplicate Kiki before Don's son came home. And there she was, all wiggly and happy on my back porch.

Kiki lets me know when she wants attention. This morning I made a mistake and put her hard food in her soft food bowl and she was not happy about it and let me know about it until I noticed and fixed it. I still love her.
Kiki escaped Ethiopia with her family travelling on foot through the hazardes Sudanese desert, at some point Israeli Mossad agents picked them up and took them to Israel, many family members including children died in the Sudan desert.
Kiki studied arabic in her israeli high school and when she turned 18 joined the army just like any other girl her age, she was sent undercover into the Gaza strip and carried out many dangerous missions until being discoverd stabbed and left for dead in the streets, only to be rescued by israeli commandos in helicopters that took her back to an israeli hospital where she recoverd, the scar is very visable and a constant reminder to the now mother of two how lucky she is to be alive, and to me and any other person thats familliar with her story of her bravery.
The last 3 weeks or so we have seen a lot of rain, flooding and snow. I was not able to get out much to do any shooting but here is a sample from past Kiki shoots.

Kiki, a juvenile chocolate Lab, appeared just as I was hoping for a dog to visit the farm this afternoon. Time was running out, as a storm front was approaching. After some initial excitement, he settled down and earned some treats.
As usual, I directed the owner to the farm's information kiosk, where there's a QR code that leads to the farm's Flickr album. There are also photos with the farm animals' names, and historic aerial shots.
