A geek stops for five minutes, trying to work out if it's actually an animatronic. He goes through the practical reasons why it could be a fake ("Because this is a really high-traffic area; it's worth the money, and I'm sure you wouldn't want to risk a real bird with all these tourists and drunks") and all the technical reasons why it isn't ("See, I saw the head yaw and pitch, which you could get from just one servo; but then I saw it do a shoulder roll, which would require another channel and a U-joint with whole redundant set of linkages...").
Here were are at the Southernmost weird buoy shaped thing in the continental US. An Ohio St (fellow Big Ten) guy saw my shirt so he took our picture and I took theirs.
